New Radar Mount
After hard wiring my Passport x50 to the rear view mirror I decided I needed something better than the OEM windshield mount. Those suction cups tend to fail after a while leaving the radar dangling. I considered the BlendMount but price and the the view from the outside of the car was not for me. Also, I didn't want to remove my radar each time I parked the car. I found this simple mount on ebay that looked like it would do the trick for just over $20. Its a small aluminum plate with a 3M adhesive backing that uses 2 screws and my current bracket. I decided to mount it above the mirror behind the dots for a concealed look from the outside. I'm hoping that doesn't affect the radar's performance. The Blinder M27 laser diffuser installation is next on my list.

Being behind the dots does obstruct its 360 range, especially from the front. I had mine mounted like that and half the time it wouldnt detect anything. i know not all cop cars run around with their radars on but it was the areas that i knew normally triggered it, like school zones that track your speed and driving on base it always triggered the Ka band, but when i put it behind the dots half the time it would go off. it also says in the owners manual to put the radar in plain unobstructed view of the road.

sham3l3ss - Reading on the radardetector.net forums the consensus was that the dots did not affect radar performance. I will have to test this for sure on some stationary speed check spots in town.

I am just going off of my own experience, its the main reason why I dumped my Escort 8500 X50 and went with the V1.
