Default Why does lexus claim 416 hp if its not?

I always wondered this. From all the dyno's i have seen of stock cars they are never know where close to the lexus numbers. Whats the reason behind this?

The motor puts out 416, not all of it makes it to the wheels.

Most dynos show power to the wheels, manufactures claim power from the crank.

as the other posts have said. the 416 is the number the engine was dynoed at aka crank hp, after drivetrain losses it goes down.

What he said. All factory cars are rated at the crank. So if u think Lexus is lying than all car manufacturers are lying. Lol

EXACTLY^^^^GM zo6 claims 505, but in all reality i have seen them dyno as low as 430whp and as high as 460whp.

Yes this also applies to the IS-F as well some dynos have shown as low as 333whp and as high as 354whp stock.

Crank HP will always be higher so it makes sense for manufacturers to list that for marketing purposes.

its about 30% drive train loss
so 30% of 416hp is roughly what you get at the wheels

Not on an IS-F. More like 15-20% loss.

??? 30% loss would be 416-(.3*416) or 291. No one has dyno'd under 330 at the wheels.

Part 2 - 30% of 416 is 124.8. No one has dyno'd 124 hp to the wheels either.

Are you mathematically challenged?

Typical drivetrain loss is 15% - 17%, but it's so widely variable it's pretty pointless to calculate numbers from "typical".

LOL. I actually laughed out loud when i read this.

depending on what type of dyno is used, the percent lost can be greater
