This is a good thread. I could not find original rotor thickness on any other post here. I found where Sewell's site recommends minumum thickness on front rotors at 26mm and 24mm for the rear rotors. With the fronts starting out at 30mm and with 26mm being the minimum, you can measure and estimate your rotor life left at the time you need front pads. 28mm will be the half way mark for the front.

Not at all true. 28mm is minimum thickness and it's stamped on the rotors. Sewell's site is wrong.

In your above post, re-read the last paragraph. It says 26mm is minimum thickness.

Thanks lobuxracer! I didn't even know that this info was in the manual.

Everybody note this thread as Sewell's site is wrong. Manual has 28mm minimum thickness for the FRONT rotors.

The printed manual will cost in the neighborhood of $400, same as a one year subscription to TIS. When I asked for the full set of manuals for the IS350, I was told it would be over $800. I've been subscribing to TIS for a few years now, and I do all my own work. I've paid a LOT less than folks taking their cars to Lexus for service, and I've paid considerably less than those taking their cars to Toyota for service. I also amortize the cost across three Toyota manufactured vehicles.

I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. Adobe Reader is rife with vulnerabilities, and anyone illegally offering copyrighted material is very likely to inject malware into their product. It's one of the most common things we see in my business. We did a little internal study and determined about 80% of data obtained through peer to peer filesharing is infected with malware.

just spent my first set of rotors at 42000 miles and 15 hours on the track... thats a solid factory rotor... picked up a new factory set from a buddy who works at a dealer for 375 for the front pair

So the squeaking continued. Glendale Ca Lexus replaced rear pads around 10,000 mi. Solved it for awhile. Then about 18000 mi the front brakes started squeaking when rolling to a stop light. Lived with it till 21000 then saw that Lexus was changing front pads under warranty to solve the problem. Took it in and the store changes pad and re surfaced the rotors. Don't feel bad, the price for new front rotors for my E63 are about $900, each.

42k miles. No track days. 70% highway miles. About to buy my 5th set of rotors. I am sick to my stomach. This last set is raysbestos rotors and bobcat ceramic pads. 12k miles and the wheel is shaking again. So, all things being equal, can a caliper be defective and warp a rotor? I'm out of ideas.

No. not a caliper, but the hub could be bent. I haven't gone through 5 sets of rotors yet and I'm at just short of 100k miles. Two sets sacrificed to track duty. The current set is the third one; Do you (or someone else who drives the car) left foot brake?

I had some strange wear issues with my Bobcats. I"m running stock pads on the front now.

42500 miles still on original rotors no cracks, at 29m just installed third set of pads last week. I changed my factory pads out after one year then switch to project mu pads, now on my second set of project mu pads. 80% Highway miles it also help until recently I worked over night shift so highways were empty. Once on highway I would go for miles without using them. Brakes were barely touched until I got off freeway. Should make it to end of year with no problem.
