Default IS-F intake shootout. indep dynos for Injen and AFE Takeda

With the recent release of these two products I have planned to provide to the CL forum an independant real world dyno of each followed by a GB of each product. I will use this thread to document the results and solicit feedback. I expect to get the Injen intake today and should be able to do some Gtech logging of results over the next week. Of course I will have baseline information to compare to in all cases and will make this as objectively scientific as possible.

Here are a few prelim details and I will fill in with vids and pictures as things progress.

AFE Takeda Retain:
-Reuses stock airbox with sheetmetal shroud. Keeps 2-stage!
-Polished tubing
-Afe media filter
-Retail price: $411.35 but sells 345.45 plus shipping from Afe.
AFE IS-F INTAKE PAGE
info (from website)
The Takeda Retain Intake by aFe is a short ram air intake intake system that is the only sealed intake system on the market. In recent testing, this intake produced 16 hp and 15 lbs. x ft. of torque. Takeda intakes are constructed out of lightweight clear coat anodized tubing for maximum air flow and a great style. Each intake uses a large 360 degree high flow PRO Dry S air filter for maximum flow, filtration and convenience. This Takeda intake system includes a black powder-coated housing that utilizes a portion of the stock air box to make a totally sealed housing that keeps out power-robbing engine heat. The PRO Dry S air filter requires no oils and cleans with simple soap and water for easy maintenance and maximum convenience. Takeda intakes come complete with all tubing, filters, couplers and hardware for easy installation.
Weight: 8 lbs

Injen Intake
Featured benefits:

- MR Technology (Tunes intake to factory air/fuel ratios)
- Air Fusion (Controls short/long term fuel trim levels)
- Injen/AMSOIL Ea nano-fiber performance dry filter
- Machined and tuned sensor adapter
- Calibrated sensor housing
- Functional Heat Shield to deflect heat
- 3 ½ “ mandrel-bent aluminum tubing black or polished finish
- Built in 5” Velocity Stack
-retail $405 but ships from various sellers for around $330 plus shipping.

(from injen website)
26-1/2HP and 37-1/2 Ft Lbs of Torque
Superior and unparalleled technology is what goes into the all new SP2096. Protected by Three US patents, the IS-F comes equipped with the only MR Tech step-down process and Air Fusion as invented and perfected by Injen Technology. You’ll never have to worry about rich or lean conditions again because Injen pre-tunes and recalibrates the Intake to factory specs.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions or post up.

Thanks, Fig

I would like to see various runs with each intake, in order to see if the gains are permanent or if they are lost due to the ECU recalibrating to factory parameters

Here are some quick pics of the Injen. So far looks good. Packed well and nothing was loose when I opened the box. Heatshield is steel with alignment holes for the tabs such that they do not move during spot welding. Velocity stack is a bonus. inside looks a little dusty but overall the backside of the welds does not look too bad. I would still suggest a good cleaning with a sponge and soapy water prior to install. I have not read the instructions quite yet. Also a bonus, it comes with polish compound to shine things up a bit. Its a nice little detail. Note the little tube inside the MAF area...must be to reduce turbulent flow around the sensor.

Mike - Glad to see you are taking the steps in dyno testing these open element intake systems for the Club..!!

You should add K&N to the mix as well...

I have never seen anything like this placed inside an intake tube......

Honestly I have never been interested in their intake and I think others here feel the same way. I am sure I could debunk their HP claims but it would be too easy I think that with dry filter technology the oiled style filters are just a needless pain. Give me shop air and a minute over the wash and oil anyday.
