Default Complete IS-F Brake Thread (Under-construction)

I am currently in the process of gathering all the options we have available to us for our brakes. Hopefully it will take all the information we have spread out over this forum, and put it in one spot and make it easier for all of us. Please hang in there as I am still gathering all information but here is a start to it. Also feel free to add information along with links so I can add it as well. Thanks.

Also please note that you can find many of these parts for cheaper, but if a link to a sponsor of clublexus is available I will try and use that link to make help make this as friendly as possible.

Front Brake Rotor Options

OEM Rotor (Part # 43512-0W060)

The is the OEM Brembo rotor that comes standard on the IS-F. These seem to be the most expensive replacement option for our car, and if you pick them up from your local dealer be willing to shell out of $300 for each rotor. You can order these offline for a good bit less money. Sewell has them listed on their site but they keep going up in price. Now they have them listed at around $600 for the set with clublexus pricing. I do not know if this is an error or what, but I have found them at other places for around $220 each.

Link to Sewell: http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...-2009-364.html

Frozen Rotors (Part # 2455 FZR)

This is a blank rotor that has gone through a 60 hour cryogenic process that is suppose to restructure the molecules inside the metal to help with longer life of the rotor. I took the liberty to contact the people at Frozen Rotors and they confirmed this application, however you must allow 10 days for the rotors to ship from their facility as these seem to be made to order. Their webpage has each front rotor listed for $178.69.

Link to Frozen Rotors: http://www.frozenrotors.com/store/2455%20FZR

Raybestos Rotor (Part # 980675)

This looks to be our cheapest option out there so far. Rotor is cross-drilled and has the stock fin configuration, however I am not aware of anyone that has tried these out yet. Rockauto has these listed on their website for $106.89 each.

Link to Rock Auto: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...or%2BRaybestos

Centric Premium Rotor (Part # 128.44164

Dont know much about this rotor except that it is cross drilled just as the stock rotor is. I have used Centric rotors in the past but the cars weight was about half of what the ISF weighs. If someone has these installed please leave a link to a review. As for price looks like these are about the cheapest option we have, as tirerack has these listed for around $110 each.

Front Brake Pad Options

OEM Front Brake Pads (Part # 04465-0W120)

This is the brake pad that comes on every IS-F from the factory. It puts out a lot of dust, but seems to have trouble free operation. If you are looking for a pad where you do not have to clean your wheels after every stop, then this is not the pad for you. These pads are also pricey, so if you pick them up from your dealer expect to shell out over $300 or maybe even $400. Sewell has these listed on their website for $303.83 for a set and with our clublexus discount it comes out to $270.41 plus shipping.

Hawk HPS Performance Street (Part # HB616F.607)

HPS - High Performance Street disc brake pads are world renowned for increasing stopping power on your street legal vehicle. Increasing the performance of your vehicles braking system is easy when you choose Hawk Performance’s HPS braking compound. This unique Ferro-Carbon formula was developed for street performance using the safety and quality of Aerospace and Motorsports severe-duty friction technology.

The High Performance Street compound offers a higher coefficient of friction over stock brake pads and can provide you 20-40% more stopping power and higher resistance to brake fade than most standard replacement pads. Less fade means you’ll have a highly durable brake pad with less brake dust.
HPS Ferro-Compound Features:

• Increased stopping power
• High friction/torque hot or cold
• Gentle on rotors
• Extended pad life
• Low dust
• Virtually noise-free
These pads are listed on TireRacks website for $250.00 for a set plus shipping.

Hawk HP Plus (Part # HB616N.607)

Hawk Performance’s HP Plus brake pad compound is ideal for Autocross and Track Day drivers looking for a high performance race compound that can take the heat of the track and get you home safely without having to change the pads.

HP Plus utilizes a unique Ferro-Carbon, high-tech friction material that was developed and manufactured for sport driving in autocross, Solo II and “track day” applications. The Ferro-Carbon formulation offers lower wear rates and higher torque values than other competitive materials.

HP Plus / Autocross Compound Features:
• Extremely High Friction Output
• Fade Resistant
• Worthy for Autocross & Club Racing Events
These pads are listed on TireRacks website for $319.00 per set plus shipping.

Hawk Performance Ceramic (Part # HB616Z.607)

Ultimate stopping power in an ultra-low dust, low noise ceramic compound recommended for import and domestic automobiles, luxury SUV’s, sports trucks, & vans.

Hawk Performance has introduced a premium, high performance, ultra-low dust, low noise compound called Performance Ceramic. Performance Ceramic is engineered to reduce brake NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), creating a quieter performing brake pad. Furthermore, the ceramic brake pad formula has a linear friction profile that allows your ABS brake system to work more effectively. With Performance Ceramic you can expect reduced brake pad wear, lower dust output levels and a rotor-friendly brake pad.

“Today’s alloy wheel designs on premium vehicles has contributed to customer demand for a low dust performance brake product. Specify Hawk Performance’s Performance Ceramic brake pads for your luxury car, SUV, or truck.”

Performance Ceramic Features:
• Increased stopping power
• Increased rotor life
• Extended pad life
• Ultra-low dust
• Extremely quiet
• Stable friction output
These pads are listed on TireRacks website for $271.00 for a set plus shipping.

Carbotech Performance Brakes (Part # CT1365)

Since it looks like Carbotech uses the same part number for all their compounds, I will just provide a link to what each compound is. When ordering your set of pads, you must specify what compound you would like them to use. Prices for a set of front pads vary from about $200 - $350 depending on the compound.

EBC Yellowstuff High Friction Brake Pads (Part # DP41591R)

High efficiency performance and race brakes for track & street use, fast to bed-in, great for street vehicle brake upgrade.

Not only a high friction pad but very resistant to heat and loads of heavy braking means that yellowstuff has been used with great success in race cars and on high speed Police Vehicle brakes alike.

EBC Yellowstuff pads are used on the UK Silverstone Race Track Drivers experience cars because of their high performance and longevity. Yellowstuff also claimed a win in the Targa rally and for two years running in the Brazil Mitsubishi off Road Team Desert Challenge

Because of its huge heat range , the applications where EBC Yellowstuff will deliver benefits range from fastest street use on higher horsepower sedans to Trackday and Race use on most street based cars and even as a brake upgrade on Trucks and SUV. Yellowstuff is especially appreciated on Trucks for towing and heavy loads and where wheel and tire oversize upgrades have been fitted. In longer races EBC Bluestuff needs to be considered.
Please note that these are dusty pads as well, so if you are looking for less dust look somewhere else. A set of these pads will run in the area of about $150-$200 depending on the seller.

Ferodo DS2500 Brake Pads (Part # )

Ferodo’s DS2500 racing brake pads represent a new generation of friction material that is low in compressibility, ensuring a firm pedal while providing great disc and pad life. These pads were developed with characteristics that make them perfect for track days, including a consistent coefficient of friction (0.50) at any temperature, providing very predictable braking and great pedal modulation. Combined with low wheel dusting and good noise characteristics, this product is the brake pad for the driver who needs the highest track-day braking performance. Superior braking power is the key to high-speed driving and winning performance.
An exact part number for this part is not known at this time. If you are ordering from Raceshopper.com please be aware that the price you are quoted from can vary from any price posted. However expect your quote to be in the range of $200-$300. I contacted this company and they do not have a firm price, but in other words says the price varies depending on which day it is.

I have used Ferodo in the past with outstanding results. Also, a member on another forum installed these pads, and his comments were:

"I fitted the pads Sunday. Great news, its easier than a pad slap on low end cars. Low end brake systems, (read) most require removal of caliper to fit pads. ISF just slip out of top after pin removal. Its actually less labor. The whole job took an hour in the garage. Of course I did clean & lube all pins & movin hardware. The pistons 6 per caliper I was able to push back with my fingers evenly till they bottom in the bore. The calipers are embossed brembo in very small LOGO on the top of the caliper. The finish is first rate. Moving along, the ferodos work nicely, after bed in intial bite is similar to stock but as I increase pressure the bite seems a bit more aggresive which I like. As for track time with these I will see in spring. The price was right & the job is easy if you know cars & brakes. Its nice to see that any work can be done at a home shop. especially if the dealer quote is 700$ Cheers & Happy New Year to all. Hope to see some of us at the track in 09"

So, the news seems to be good with Ferodo.

Lou
Just to update, The price for the Feredos has gone up a lot in the past four years. I tried to negotiate with Edwin, and I really didn't like his attitude, so I started looking around, and I found a new source for those, http://speed-freaks.net If any of you guys are interested I have a Coupon code good for 5% off. They are super helpful people. I delt with a fellow named Anish. And, I now know the Ferodo PN it's FRP3100H-N.

I also have a discount code worth 10% for Carbotech and Project Mu. PM if if interested.

Lou

Just curious, why does the rear rotor cost more than the front?

If I had to guess, I would say its because Brembo charges more to manufacturer the rotor with parking brake functionality...

Another alternative:

StopTech Street Performance brake pads - front (D1365): $117
StopTech Street Performance brake pads - rear (D1366): $84 (Coming Soon)

StopTech Street Performance brake pads are StopTech's newest formulation, offering a combination of high bite, low noise, low dust, and sufficient operating temperature range to be used in light to medium duty track applications as well as street. These are now the included brake pads for StopTech big brake upgrades.
