Default gas mileage

i been recently doing like 90% freeway driving, and it seems like i cant get any better than 22-24 miles on the average tank setting. it seems if your not constantly going going at one speed the mpg does not go up. I mean the slightest tap of the gas my mpg doesnt go up.

full tank i think i can get 290-320 at best.

i think i heard other getting way better milage than this on freeway?

i only have 5,400 miles.

your commute might not be long enough. I've noticed my car gets crappy mileage for about the first 10-12 miles wuile the engine fully warms up. I get about 21 avg in my normal, 80% highway driving (usually do about 75 on the highway).
However, on longer commutes (100 mi +) I've averaged 75 mph and booked 26 mpg.

how fast do you drive?
gas mileage varies a lot depending on your speed. i get 30 mpg if i cruise at 50-55 mph, 25 mpg if i cruise at 75-80 mph. i do agree with you even occasional heavy right foot ruin the gas mileage easily. your mileage should also improve 1-2 mpg after ~ 15k miles. 0-60 time should improve a little too.

I get considerably better mileage in D vs. M, not surprising considering I run the engine much harder in M.

since this is commuting, i drive like a granny. I cruise at about 65-70mph the speed limit.
and 290-320 is the best. Repeat i drive like a granny when commuting, trying to get better gas milage.

22-24mpg highway is pretty good if you're accelerating and decelerating, I'd think. 80mph in cruise control gets me 27-28mpg.

I have 15,700 miles on the car and hardly squeak out 23mpg on a long highway drive. When it was newer, say under 10k mileage it got 28mpg twice. Never since.

Glad i'm not alone.

Why are you complaining? I'm getting about the same on my IS350.

I didn't buy this car for the mileage. I honestly couldn't tell you what I get. I fill up, I drive, then I fill up again... all the while with a smile on my face.

You have to look at it as: 416HP and a 5.0L V8...

How many cars get this kind of gas mileage with our output?

several things have a great deal on influence on fuel mileage. First is the driver and their acceleration style. So on the highway this will be reduced greatly with the use of cruise control. I often pit my car in "snow" mode on the highway, this keeps the car from downshifting all the time, a higher gear=better fuel economy, and in my view takes a lot of the nervousness out of the vehicle (i.e. I do NOT want to change lanes if I sneeze!) oil type/weight used has an effect on fuel mileage (synthetic does as well to a much lesser degree)(thats why the car manufactures put that little number on the oil fill cap folks 5w30) fuel type used, my vehicle on the highway on one very long trip down the east coast got 22 mpg on the highway with Exxon fuel, 27 mpg with Shell, and 31 mpg with BP. I did not change any other variables other than fuel brand. i simply relaxed, sat back at 70mph and let the computer do the work. my car only has 4500 miles on it by the way.
