Default Tires

So yesterday I found 2 nails in my rear passenger tire and that gave me the opportunity to exam the front tires. I'm only at 11k miles and the inside edge of the front tires are completely bald already. What is everyone else's tire wear situation? Also what the heck is up with the tire monitor system not telling us WHICH tire has low pressure?! The tires are so low profile, you can't easily tell which one is a little flat. I've heard other brands' monitoring system tells you which tire. Unless I'm missing something in the manual that tells me how to change that setting to show me which tire is low.

BTW, my F came with the RE050's. They said the PS2s are more expensive, but last longer? I thought the PS2s would be softer and wear faster.

on lexus they don't tell you which tire is low, you have to check all of them

ps2 will just wear as fast. have it on my m3, they grab and they wear

I'm glad I didn't just buy the tires yesterday at America's Tire, the place I went to. They said their RE050's were $350 and the PS2's were $390. I just looked online and most places sell the RE050s for $280 and the PS2s are $350. I'm thinking maybe the Goodyear Eagle F1s since they're $220. These prices are for the rear tires. I'm just gonna keep the front for now. Maybe I should drive more aggressive in the corners to even out the outter edges on the front tires. LOL

PS2's are definitely softer despite the higher treadwear rating than the 050's. A good alternative is the Toyo T1-R.

I'm feeling a poll on what tires everyone is going to go with after their first set wears out....Nitto (Invo or NT-05), PS2's, Bridgestones, Toyo's (T1-R's), etc.

I'm at 17K on bridgestone OEM's. The insides of my tires are BALD, this can partially be attributed to the aggressive lowering, though. I have PS2's waiting for me. I think my car should be called "TIREATR"

PS - I HATE bridgestones. The car had them on it when I got them. My Infiniti M45 had the same thing, and as soon as I ate through those I went back to PS2's. The PS2's are day and night to me vs Bridgestone. $0.02

It's night and day because you're mind is comparing worn out bald tires to brand new ones at the time you switch brands.

I plan to go with PS2 once I wear down the OEM RE50s I ended up with. If you see a Mercury Metallic F in the Fort Worth area doing burnouts from every stop light you will know I'm just trying to accelerate my tires' demise.

Yep. Includes a half day at Buttonwillow too. But I drive passive aggressively for the most part. Putt putt around a lot but nail it once in a while to pass people. I'm averaging 21.9 MPG over the 19K plus miles.

Time to revive this thread.

At 21,400 miles I changed my front tires (today.) I had planned on getting a set of PS2s, but when I saw a killer deal on a full set of Bridgestones from another IS-F (thanks byung!), I couldn't resist the savings, so I'm still on RE050As. The reason I changed the fronts only is because they were corded on the inside edge (belts were showing) and catastrophic failure was imminent. The old tires still had quite a bit of tread depth in the center, but the outer shoulder blocks were 100% smooth from track weekend activity. Given the inside edges were toast as well, I'm not entirely unhappy about changing them, but I'm contemplating taking some toe-out away for longer tread wear.

The rears are still in great shape and easily have another 5k miles in them before hitting the wear bars. I suspect if I'm a little more conservative with the new fronts I could get to 50k miles with the tires I now have on hand. Considering what I paid for the new tires, it's impossible to beat.

Now I just need to find an inexpensive set of wheels I can use for track days...
