Default clutch smell

i have been driving with VSD off and sports mode in auto for the last weeks. when i floored the gas and making a sharp turn, i could hear something spinning and followed by a nasty smell that resembles burned clutch. i though maybe my tires were spinning, but i dont hear any squeals. i know this car does not have a clutch, but is it possible the transmission is slipping and caused the smell?

More than likely tires. Our electronic LSD doesn't work at low speeds or from a stop like a mechanical LSD, so you can spin a tire pretty easily.

I notice that the PS2s don't make much sound spinning out. What tires do you have?

I always thought the smell was the CATs warmed up.

I've been driving in SPORT + VSD OFF since I got the car in June 2008, and I remember having this smell for the first months but not anymore. It might be the cats warming up.

Are you serious that the LSD is inop at low speeds or from a stop? What good is that if you can't launch the car from a standing start without applying the power to both wheels?

What he means is, the "electronic LSD" is not a mechanical feature. Basically the LSD like feature is operated electronically by a combination of ABS/TRAC/VSC.

and it does not work from a stop or at very low speeds. If you want to mimic a mechanical LSD, you'll need to put the parking brake on a couple of clicks.

Now that I think about it, if you're smelling a clutch like smell, it's most likely your brakes after you're hard on them.

i did not touch the brake paddle at all each of the three times i smelled the "clutch." all three times occurred when i was at stop sign or stop light and stepped on the gas hard off the line. it only happened when i was hard on gas and making a hard turn at the same time, so that makes buring rubber likely. i thought it smelled more like burned clutch than rubber though.

my car also makes a wierd smell like a burning clutch when i go WOT. It happens even when i am not going from a stop. I try to pinpoint where the smell is coming from but i cant. Should i take this into the dealer or will they even do anything. The car runs great.

If it smells like rotten egg, it's because of high sulfur contents in fuel. Alternatively, close all windows, sunroof and air before WOT
