Default Lightweight IS-F in the works!?

As a reference point, my cars race weight with the spare out and little over 1/4 tank of gas weighed 3860lbs.

http://www.autospies.com/news/Lexus-...e-works-34101/

"However, a lightweight IS-F is in the works. The model is currently undergoing testing and engineers have applied a lot of weight-saving techniques to the model.

Seems like BMW should reconsider canceling the E92 M3 CSL."

Lets pretend for a minute that this was true. What kind of weight savings are possible without losing it's Luxury aspect?

Hmmmm no moonroof, lightweight cloth seating only, no interior trunk trim, no spare. Couple hundred lbs?

EDIT: Assuming that this is true.

The point is that the car will be rougher edged; losing its "luxury aspect" is an expected part of the package. So, in addition to flipside's comments:

Remove sound deadening
Lightweight Recaro/Sparco-style manual seats
No Nav/ML/Parking Assist etc.
Lighter wheels
Full titanium exhaust
Other little things like remove foglight assemblies etc.

The list could go on and on i.e. lighter brakes but at some point the car becomes prohibitively expensive for an IS. That's basically why BMW said no to the M3 CSL.

I found the same story in MotorTrend:
http://wot.motortrend.com/6292221/au...csl/index.html . In this one it even mentions Lexus is working with Lotus on it. Is this still just a rumor? If it's really true, I might hold off on buying the IS-F next year and wait for this, as long as it's not prohibitively expensive.

Hmmm, interesting stuff, that would be intense if it was true but I guess we will have to wait and see

I wouldn't hold my breath, but I would definitely love to see this heavyweight drop a few weight classes. The IS-F could stand to lose 400 lbs, if only they could find somewhere to strip that out of. But hey, even 200lbs lighter would be nice.
