Default Do I need new rims for 245/40/R19 Tires?

Hello all,

I currently have winter tires that are 245/40/R19. I do not own an ISF yet but I am considering it highly. I have used these winter tires as this seasons is my 2nd season on them. Should I buy new rims for winter time for these tires and which rims can I get that would fit 245/40/R19. Could I use the existing ISF rims (I believe they are staggered)? Should I sell these tires and buy a different setup?

I looking for some advice from you guys as I am interested in a 2012+ ISF.

Thanks

OK 245/40/19F will the front rim as well as rear rim but it will be sightly stretched in 245/40/19R . Another problem is that they are to tall. At 245/40/19 your looking at 26.5 to 26.7 on average depending on tire manufacturer. The optimum height needs to be as close to 26inch total height as possible. I would go with whole new set of tires you several choices go with OEM 225/40/19F 255/35/19R or 245/35/19R. To get the best traction possible you should actually go with narrowest tire possible square set and down size your rim to 18inch . I'm running 225/45/18F and 225/45/18R what ever rim you select make sure they have proper offset. I'm using blizzak WS80 winter tires. So do your research and see what works best for you. If you can afford it go with new set of rims, and winter tires. I would not use 245/40/19 and go with OEM size or down size to 18 rim with 225/45/18 that keeps you close to 26in height.

If the tires are taller isn't it better for use in the winter time to reduce bumper damage on hard raised snow/icy conditions?

Yes it's better to have taller sidewall not necessarily taller tire there's difference. Heres pic of tire calculator even though 245/40/19 is taller tire the 225/45/18 has taller sidewall which helps give you that extra protection and 225/45/18 is closest to 26inches which is ideally what you want.
