No comparison when you have this sound

But I agree with the article, it requires being flogged to enjoy.

Nothing like the wail of a V10 to get you going in the morning.

Also, those early SMGs were terrible. You're at the point of whiplash with every shift lol.

Interesting read - but on the track the M5 will not "run circles around the IS-F with more horsepower, sharper handling and overall track mastery."

Good write up. Sadly I would not want to have to worry about my $ V10 blowing up every time I decided I wanted to beat on it or put it through it's paces around a track.

It was decent, but his "M5 would run circles around F at the Track" made me stop reading it. I'm yet to see the M5 do that.

i've always wondered about the article writer; what mods does he have that claim "440 hp"?

"PPE headers, full JoeZ exhaust and JoeZ intake. No tune" That's what he says in the comment section.

I thought the same exact thing, run circles? He sounds like a power guy who drives on the street who get's all his "track experience" from magazines or rumors. Prolly the same type of guy who describes handing using terms like "handles like it's on rails" while taking a "speedy" on ramp.
TF is "track mastery".

BMW M5 Options package:
carbon package
cold weather package
track mastery button

Any real track guy would have just said they are probably within a couple 10ths of each other on track pending driver skills. Sounds like someone needs to do some trackdays.

I won't deny that the M5 is a bit faster than our car, even at twice the price and a tenth the reliability but I laughed at run circles around the F as well. Even in the car enthusiast community I don't think many people realize how quick the F, especially with a few choice mods.

Yeah. Jalopnik has quite a bit in common with Clarkson when it comes to kissing the *** of BMW (regardless of how many articles they publish trying to deny such)

I love these cars however, the size is perfect. I ran into one this summer. I had a head to head opportunity to run him from a light but he was busy fiddling with something in the console. I should've honked. When the light turned green I was off but he didn't follow. Once I started slowing down however, he finally noticed and bam - like a bullet from a gun. I've never ridden in one, but from what I've read this one had to have been modded. I caught up with him, thumb'd up (which he returned), & went on my way.

The SMGIII isn't horrible, it has a sense of rawness to it. Just that most are spoiled by the E9X DCT which is probably one of the best gearboxes ever made, especially mated to the S65.

I was shopping 6MT E60M's for a bit. Never had a chance to test drive one. I drove my buddies SMGIII a few years ago, it was fun.

An early E60 M5 is quite affordable now. About $25k for high mileage one. Was going to buy one in 2008 but I end up buying an is250 rwd. Was going to buy one earlier this year but end up buying a 08 ISF lol

The older and newer M5 are powerful but the IS-F can compete quiet well
