Simple FREE Mod For Anyone With A Aftermarket Cone Air Filter
This is a spin off from my other long thread. lol This got buried in it somewhere so here is the info. on its own, maybe it accounts for some of the et I dropped with my K&N kit install.
This took about five minutes to do after starring at the old factory air box sitting on the shop floor, we did not get to dyno again after I did this but I don't see this being much of a gain on a dyno with a fan blowing through the factory air intake, this probably works better actually driving, who knows, something else to argue about I guess.
Anyhow if you have a aftermarket cone set up either on the stock intake pipe or and after market cold air kit this will work, the photos are huge but I did that so you can see more detail. Essentially you pop off the rivets that hold this little snorkel piece on the factory air box after it is removed and slide it back on to the factory air inlet that stayed on the car. This will help get fresh air right to the filter since warm engine air getting to the filter is the main complaint when doing a cone filter set up. I am going to play with some other things to and get the area around the cone filter sealed off completely as well as put heat deflecting tape or heat deflecting barrier material around the inlet tube.
I made notes under some of the photos. In the event you did not do your install, the pic below is your factory air box off the car after you have already installed your cone filter.
There is a rivet at the bottom holding the scoop on. This is the back of your factory air box off the car.
Pop this rivet off, cut it, or drill it. I popped it off.
There is also one on the side, do the same here.
Take the plastic tab off that holds the tube down that I am pointing to and lift up the tube.
Slide it back on.
Push it back and down in to place.
Lines up perfectly and I did not have to use anything to hold the factory scoop in to place.
Blows fresh air from the front of the car right on the filter. Put a fan at the inlet in the from of the car and feel it come right out on the filter.

Ofc it'll make a difference, do you know how hot it gets in there? not in a 100+hp extra way but the engine will like it.
and good job, you can still easily return it back to factory if you want to later on.

Nice little mod! I'm sure any cool directed air helps out in this situation

Lol yeah probably barely measurable on a dyno even because you could not force enough air in there
And thanks, I am going to put some clear sealant of some sort in where the snorkel slides in to seal it off better.

Thank you. I am thick skinned and realize most of what was said in my other post was from people that have zero experience with racing or mods so it didn't bother me. lol
