Default age old question - which year or generation is best to get used.

i thought the 2nd gen isf was made from 2008-2012, but did they also make a 2013-2014 3rd gen isf as well or is that the f-sport for 2013-2014, or did the 2013-2014 body still look like 2nd gen?

no they are all the same but I think this is a fair break down.

'best' (good luck with this): 2014
most reasonable 'best': 2011
in between: 2012 (larger rear wheels)

ISF is only 2nd gen IS body. Years range from 08-14. 1st gen ISF is 08-10, 2nd generation ISF is 11-14

There was only one generation of the IS F, which kept similar body lines to the 2nd generation ISx50. But there was no second or third generation IS F, which has largely been mistakenly synonymous with the ISx50 F-sport.

If I were in the market for a used IS F, I would look for a '12. The majority of revisions were seemingly updated at this point. The wheels being a 1/2 inch wider are highly sought after by current owners. But I have close friends who are leaning towards the '10 simply because it didn't have the LED headlamps or single tachometer, but also had the Torsen LSD introduced.

In any case, you can't really go wrong. Best of luck in the search!

I just don't understand how anyone WOULDNT want the LED headlights in the '11 and up F's?!?! Makes the car look sooooo much more updated...not to mention the black housing the LED lights had instead of the clear lights. Also the '12+ had thicker steering wheels as well. '13 and '14 got a slightly revised nav screen as well, much more colorful than my '12 Fs.

Pre-2010....no LSD (edit: older navigation, no Bluetooth streaming, old wheel design)
2010...LSD, old suspension, old steering, only available in all leather seats, no LED lights, updated nav, Bluetooth streaming, Sat radio, new wheels
2011....all new and better suspension, LED lights, updated interior trim, alcantara seats available, revised and better steering (updated steering ECU I think)
2012....revised suspension (different brand shocks, fine tuning), new wider wheels
2013..... entertainment system was updated and now has apps
2014.....addition of carbon fiber spoiler and LED fog lights

thanks for the responses and clarifying first gen vs the 2nd gen. I have a 07 250 as in my signature, i recall test driving the exact same color combo for a brand new 08 F at Stealership and taking that thing thing on freeway was a blast, cant explain how weird it felt to be sitting in the exact same cockpit as your current vehicle but you have 200+ more HP and a nice exhaust note to back that up while punching the $65k beauty on the freeway.

I didnt like when they changed the gauge cluster to one, but I did like the LED change on the lighting compared to my 07 setup.

I got my '08 in March. I love everything about it. The LED headlights are nice but I'm fine without it. I would have liked for it to have an LSD, but the newer ones were out of my range. If it bothers me enough, I can eventually get one to install down the road.

The only other thing I wish mine had was the Bluetooth audio streaming through the radio. Probably the biggest thing I miss.

you hit the nail on the head with the bluetooth, that probably my biggest gripe. did lexus engineers not own an ipod in 2008?

I hated the 2011 cluster and only really cared about the LSD for the track so I went with a crazy low mileage 2010 in February in 2014

Yeah....different people just want different things. I would presume they'd rather pick the car that suits their needs and not just worry about a cosmetic effect. Yes, the LED headlights are more modern, but personally that wouldn't be as strong a selling point as say the LSD.
