Default How to disassemble Fake tips

I've searched on the forums and didn't find something about it.
I want to powdercoat the fake tips, but just the chrome.
Is it possible to disassemble them or are they welded on?
I thought there might be a way, after reading about tips that fall off while driving.

Sorry didn't mean how to get the whole unit off, just want the tips itself off, so I can leave the "mesh" flat black and the tips gloss black

I took mine of and had them redone in gloss black. It's been a while but I'm pretty sure they are welded on.

As far as removing them from the car, yeah either the mufflers or the entire rear bumper needs to come off. After that, just three nuts per side.

^^^ actually there are four nuts that need to be removed ( 2 bottom 2 top) and yes easiest way to remove them is to take the bumper off, no way around it.. did mine 3 weeks ago..

That's correct, the tips are spot welded to the heat shield.

Unless the tips fall off, both of mine did and it's happened to a few others, you would have to grind the spot welds off to separate the tips.
