Default Clear Plastic on Gear Indicator

The other day I looked down to shift and saw two "bubbles" in/on my Gear Indicator to the left of the shift ***. I tried to remove them and then realized they were in what appeared to be plastic tape on top of the indicator letters. I peeled it off and other than some glue residue that came off easily now its is clearer than its ever been. Was this a protector that stayed on since delivery, should I have left it on for some sort of protection? Looks fine (even better) now. Anyone experience this?

Yes it's just an anti-scratch film...

I just went out and looked at mine because it always bothered me with the scratches. Mine still had the film on too which I didn't realize was on so I peeled it off. It looks new and 100% better.

Same here noticed side lifting just a hair about 3-4 months ago, I messed with it and realized that there was a plastic covering over gear indicator, pulled it off and it looked brand new!

I literally had the exact same thing happen last week with my 08. I thought at first I was going to mess it up by removing it but now it looks good as ever.

The day I bought the car I looked down and saw an edge, so peeled it lol. Looks great just needed polished up to remove a little leftover adhesive.

What a great thread Yoegster! And here I thought I was going to need to buy another center console piece because mine had heavy scratches all over it... nope, looks perfect now!

FWIW the bare clear plastic will still become scratched over time... thankfully this can be polished out using any automotive polish

I notice this when I bought my ISF. It was scratched to hell. I went to go polish it out, then noticed it was a plastic film. Pulled it off and it was pristine underneath.
FYI also, where it says Lexus on the door sills, those also have the same plastic film covering them.

Awesome! Glad it worked. Yes - it could scratch again but now we know and can be careful. And, it is polishable but this time you get a pass. Thanks for the note!
