Interesting. The Genesis isn't no slouch too. Just saw a YouTube video of one vs an e60 m5.

There's nothing sporty about the 5.0 Genesis though. If I was looking for a car of that class, I'd have an LS460.

FWIW.

The Genesis is a great bang for the buck car, in reality you get a lot of options and a lot of car for the price, the 10/100K warranty is a nice thing as well.

HOWEVER.

as stated above, it has no soul, it has no mojo, it is a boring commuter car with no excitement.

I test drove the 5.0 Genesis Sedan before buying the RC-F, the Genesis definitely had more bells and whistles, but personally I am not a fan of sedans and only test drove it to appease my wife.

second while it has a gas guzzling 5.0 V8 it does not have neck snapping *** going sideways power.

two things that I require in a car:
1. no more than 2 doors
2. the ability to make my wife scream in terror when I mash the gas..

The Genesis failed on both counts.

oh yeah and the resale on that Hyundai is going to suck, the dealer is listing a loaded 5.0 @$39,000? fully optioned that car new is $56,000 it has lost $17,000 in value in a year. that is not a good sign, seeing as the dealer probably not selling at a loss it means the minute you drive that "new" 4,000 mile demo off the lot it is going to be worth even less than $39,000

That's a 2014 Rspec though, little more hp and much lighter than what the OP wants. OP wants the redesign 2015 model which fully loaded is in the 4500-4600lb range with less power.

Plus even the lighter and slightly more powerful Rspec is still a 13.5-13.7 vehicle, which is what a 2nd gen IS350 runs, shows that in a street race anything can happen, from the video it sounded like the M5 owner couldn't drive his car, missed a gear plus he had a 200 pound passenger and still ran it down.

OP I seen that one in fort collins for 28K, Red mica. It has been up there for over 5 months now, interested in why...im sure you could talk them down some its stay is a bit overdue. Some private sales occasionally pop up here locally on craigslist. Good luck in your search, obviously those will be more biased to getting the F on a lexus forum, rightfully so. But it all comes down to personal preference. Test drive both, I think you will find the one you want

How is the condition of the one in Ft Collins. Car fax does say it has been sitting on their lot for awhile. Wondering why it has not sold. There must be something missing. A few other cars have come and gone in the two weeks I have been looking. That red one and the black one in Co Springs (97k miles) are basically the only ones left

That's true. But how do u miss a gear on a SMG transmission? Unless he double tapped the up shift and it shifted straight to 3rd. From the vid, it looks like he shifted too early. The Genesis do deserve some credit but when comparing it to the ISF, the F takes it.

Doesn't Hyundai have it's reliability act together? And they're roomier & ride better. Insurance may be considerably less.

You know what I drive though.

Keep in mind you're asking this question on a Lexus forum.
Ask the same question on a BMW or Audi forum and I'll give you one guess what those guys will recommend.

As far as the comparison, I personally don't think it's odd at all. Both are 4 door sports sedans with 400+ hp. An odd comparison would be an IS-F vs a Jeep Cherokee, or a Viper vs. an Audi A4. A thorough cross-shopper doing their due-diligence would absolutely compare these two cars.

In my opinion I think you should buy what you like and what your heart tells you to buy...only a fool would buy what someone else likes.

I owned a 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan for 5 years and 65k miles (mine was the 3.8 liter) and it was the epitome of reliable! Not one issue other than oil changes and tires. I never had one alignment on that car the whole time I had it.

Now you are asking about the 5.0 R-Spec, that motor I'm unfamiliar with but other than the displacement and number of cylinders being the same as the ISF there is nothing similar about them at all. I agree with others that it's more comparable to a LS460 with more power.

Hyundai has come a long way on the reliability front and I wouldn't hesitate one second to buy one of their vehicles again based on my experience. As a matter of fact my wife drives a Hyundai also and it's been just as reliable as the Genesis was, so I wouldn't be concerned on the reliability factor of Hyundai anymore. Now the fun factor is no comparison and the F is in a league of it's own, just depends on what your looking for in your situation?

Look at cars.com. There are two low mileage 2008 models for sale near Denver.
