I read the same thing. It was faster than the shift time in a street Ferrari with F1 gear box from what I remember.

Shift time in manual mode sure I could see that. But when in auto the 08 I drove was much more sluggish and not as perceptive as the ZF8 I drove in the F30 335i right after. Again a 4 year span. Plus other manufacturers use the ZF8 and it's not as good as BMW's which I believe comes down to better programming.

Yes the ISF is definitely not at its best in auto. In fact I hardly ever drive the ISF in auto because it seemed like Lexus took "granny mode" literally when they programmed it. I think my IS350 was more sporty in auto mode.

In that sense, yes the ZF is superior in auto mode to the Aisin ISF unit if sporty driving is the goal. Then again, sometimes granny mode comes in handy if you just want to cruise comfortably, buttery smooth so I guess it's the best of both worlds?

Nothing wrong with having granny mode!

It's good for driving your folks or elderly relatives around. Drop them off and you can switch to attack mode for the trip home!

Love the Jekyll and Hyde personality of the F.

so with that said....our cars shift fast AF. Also...the m3 now seeing it like that isn't hardly faster and that shouldn't even be a argument anymore.

BMW's DCT gearbox is phenomenal. It's definitely still a huge factor in the E9X M3's favor. Outside of super cars it's maybe second to PDK. Drive one, it's a freakin blast all around.

The issue is not the ISF shift time of the transmission, it is the delay from when you pull the paddle until it sends the signal and the shift happens. In my opinion the ISF is horribly slow at this part. I want an instant shift the very milisecond I pull the paddle, not a few tenths later.

I agree with this statement. I know RR-Racing is working on a transmission reflash as well, hopefully this is something they can address!

Its funny, with a few tweaks here and there the ISF could have been a perfect sports sedan. It has all the parts and if Lexus had continued to develop it over its life span the end result would have been phenomenal. We would have had a 2014 with 467hp, lightning quick auto, sounded bad *** and rode and handled perfectly, and maybe with some carbon fiber even dropped a few pounds. Unfortunately they did not, but with the aftermarket tuning on the scene it looks like those of us with this dream will be able to slowly build it the way it should have been or even better. I told my wife that this is a car we will not be getting rid of, we will just add to the collection once it is retired from daily duty.

the whole tuning thing excites me....it makes our car in more demand as one of the guys were saying in the m3 forum. Now that its tunable were going to see a lot more parts and things to play with. Its funny tho bc now that our car is tunable some of the guys with the M3s are jealous...they're jealous of our reliability and now we got tuning

I agree with this but only at low RPMs. At high RPMs the response is pretty quick.
