So I'm nearing the time where I want to sell my existing car I've had for 8 years and move into an ISF. I have the year and mileage I want, but everyone is listing their cars for well over KBB (sometimes $10K+ ha!). The most common excuse is "well thats what I owe" as if that has anything to do with the value of the car. Is it really possible someone driving a $40,000 car doesn't have $5k cash to their name?
For $45K I'll wait another year and pick up an RCF.
Are people literally basing the car's value on what they owe or am I missing something?
They are starting high and should all be negotiating. My 2012 with 32k miles started off around$ 44k and then eventually sold under $40k last month. Whatever the seller owes isn't the buyers problem nor concern.
An awesome member that posts on the RCF forum sent me the Manheim actual auction prices for ISF 2012-2014 and wow the prices dealers pay. Mark them up by minimum 6-10k . Auction is the way to go for me in my next car .

Check Cars.com.. I checked a few days ago and they had 97 F's listed for sale. I had to buy mine out of state, the Lexus dealer I bought from had my 2012 shipped to me within 1.5 days and paid shipping for the 1500 mile trip..
There are so many cars that sell above the KBB value. Even very common cars like Mazda3 HB. As one of the previous posters said, supply and demand.
Also "well thats what I owe" is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I mean if you owe $5K for your car, were you going to ask $5K for it? The market value might be higher than the KBB, that is understandable, but how much the seller owes has nothing to do with the asking price. When I was selling my IS300 a few years back, I owed $4 or so to my bank. I could have easily paid off the car and sold it but I didn't want to do that since my monthly payments were really low. A buyer came along and we were discussing the price, I was asking around $8500 for the car btw, he pulled the "I can pay $4K for the car since that is how much you owe". I almost punched that MF in the face! My finance has nothing t do with you, you are not buying by debt, you are buying my car. I told him that I can go to my bank and pay off the car right away, The car got sold for $8400 within the next few days...
I really don't understand the point you're trying to make? Are you saying only ISF owners over value their cars? I'm sure if you're looking for a clean, well maintained, low mileage 2011+ ISF you're not going to find many owners or dealers giving them away....they're just aren't that many to go around. If you be patient I'm sure a pretty well driven one will fall into your price range. Just gotta keep looking...

Ya I'm in no rush, I guess I just didn't understand why so many crazy overpriced. Example at least $5000 over retail. Sounds like just a lot of buyers wishful thinking.
