Normal when driving in "auto"?
So i noticed, when in auto mode, whether sport mode is on or off, it does the same thing. If i floor it from a stand still, the transmission takes noticeably longer to go from 1st into 2nd then from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, etc. 1st to 2nd takes like a good second, kinda like this:
1st VROOOOM.....................2nd VROOOM..3rd VROOOM..4th.....etc..
If i drive it in manual mode, then it shifts just as fast. So this only happens in auto.

Sounds normal. I believe the slow shift is due to the torque converter, though slower makes it a smoother shift going from 1st->2nd. Then the torque converter locks up after 1st gear in AUTO mode and you get faster shifts.

Yeah It almost feels like when Lexus engineers programmed the shifts in manual, they were like holy crap this is too fast and hard, lets go to the other extreme in auto mode and give it a nice fat delay...
I guess it's a good thing though, sometimes you just wanna go cruise..Lexus like.

My '08 does this too. I've got a Hayward & Scott catback - the slight pause only seems to make the car seem louder when 2nd eventually engages!
Interesting info about the torque converter. There seems to be quite a difference in ratio between 1st and 2nd - far more than 2nd to 3rd etc. Maybe that has something to do with it?

I think it's clear on a few accounts, this being one, that there were a few old guys in the final decision making process that said "this is too much brute and still needs to feel 'Lexus,' I say!"

^^^^^ agreed on power. Also I feel its for reliability of car as well. Constantly shift hard in first to second is going to wear down components. YOu also have to remeber everyone that has an F isnt like us. We wont to WOT all the time. Some people love it for what it is and prob dont even know what sport mode does. Think about how many people out there prob never touch it. If they manufactured the car for race people wouldnt purchase them. I think thats why RCF isnt selling well. To "race" driven for the normal consumer.

On topic, the gearbox in the F is a little interesting in terms of ratios. Here's the table:

I just sat in an RC F at Lexus with the performance package. They do not have a sunroof. It has way MORE headroom than my IS F. It had me thinking. Then I looked at the build sticker and saw the car was nearly a year old already. 04/15 build. They have another that is 01/15 build with the performance package. That's a long time to pay flooring charges. It would just be really hard to sell my Supra for an RC F...
Yes you sit a lot lower in the RCF. Also in the new 350's as well. I had one yesterday while is300 was in service.
