Default Differential Paint / POR15 Job

I got sick & tired of the way my diff looked, so I decided to sand & POR15 it.

I used my dremel for 90% of the sanding & my hands for 10%. I used multiple sanding heads for the dremel & a small wire brush attachment which worked fantastically. I taped over the diff sticker (which later pulled off but was saved) along with the factory paint blotch which you can still see after the paintwork =). I then degreased, metal prepped, & POR15'd the diff. It's a bit glossy but overall I'm happy with the results. Pics are from a cell only right now. Lemme know if you dig!

FYI, the floor jack you see in the photo was just there as a backup, the car was NOT jacked up from this spot. It was on jack stands when I did this.

Just hit 50. My guess is this is the evidence my car had seen salt before I owned it.

I was just under my 2008 today, put her up on the jackstands to install a Toms diffuser that's going in tomorrow. I just had a 2011 diff assembly installed that I purchased from a recycler in New York, and was concerned it would look like your "before" shot, but instead it looks like your "after". Was suprised the old diff was just dirty & not rusty, as the the car was originally sold in Alaska.

It looks good, nice work. Now you need to get a better looking exhaust. The PPE I recently had installed has polished resonators & mufflers. The HKS looks amazing as well, with polished pipes.

Ha! Excellent reply. The ONLY issue I have with changing the exhaust is I LOVE the way stock sounds... Call me crazy... (but keep it up and you'll probably convince me)

Looking at your pic - no kiddin'. Looks brand new under there, even your bolts. Be interesting to see how many reply with my issue.

Thankfully Toyotas don't rust badly and the ISF is no exception. You are however making me want to get down there again and touch the other little spots. I love a pristine undercarriage.

Any trip longer than 1/2 hour makes my appreciate the sound of the stock exhaust.

I feel the same way with aftermarket exhausts, but the borla is too quiet imo, almost quieter than stock, sometimes I wonder if there is an exhaust back there..now when the headers go in im sure ill think different...

All that work and no LSD?

Georgia does not have the corrosion issues Illinois has. I left Iowa when I was 13 and have never had any desire to return to the rust belt to live. My Supra still looks new underneath and it's 22 years old.

I hear ya, and was prepared to take heat on this when I started the post.
I am kicking myself I didn't get in on the group buy last year. In hindsight, that was a steal.

It's truly awful having a car up here. Even this winter - extremely mild and very light snow - they salt to excess anytime a flake hits the ground. My guess is the city won't get the salt supply next year unless they "use" what inflates the budget this year. Winter storage for my toys is a necessary evil imo. Keepin' it steel.

dude just took the time to go under his car and rust prevent the diff, gotta give him credit for that. It's not a real lsd from the 2011, but it's still something special.
