Not quite apples to apples. There are a couple of factors you probably aren't aware of.

I don't think the new F80 M3 has been included on the lightning lap test, but the M4 was and ran a 3:00.7, But the M4 isn't a sedan so isn't included this list linked above, but I'd guess M3 would be similar.

A factor at play here is that the track was repaved a couple of years back, and believe later IS-F time was on the older track. My wife picked up about 1.5-2 seconds a lap on the newly paved track. That means cars tested in earlier years are handicapped a bit in terms of their lap time. Even with the a reduced time on the new pavement I don't think an IS-F will catch up, but it's a great match for the E92 M3!

3:05.4 BMW M3 COUPE LL2 2/10
3:05.4 LEXUS IS F LL2 2/11
3:05.6 BMW M3 COUPE LL2 11/08

M3 and ISF share the same lightning lap time, albeit the tested M3 was a coupe

If we compared it to the IS-F's main competitor at the time (E92 M3) they never tested the sedan but they did test the coupe twice, which was lighter than the sedan.

IS-F 3:05.4
M3 Coupe DCT with Pilot Sport Cup Tires 3:05.4
M3 Coupe 3:05.6

Fanboy guess here, but I think it's safe to assume if they ran a heavier E90 M3 Sedan it would even be slower. Also imagine if the IS-F was rolling on Pilot Sport Cup+ 245/265 tires like the M3 Coupe had when it ran the identical times to the IS-F running on regular 225/255 summer tires? Mind blown...

I did not record that run as my video equipment was in my race car at the time. I have video of me a few years ago, but I was only hitting 143 mph max.

Here are a couple laps of me chasing my buddy in his 911 Turbo. Taken with Harry's Lap timer so the speed has a little lag. (says ~146mph but 154 on my speedo. You pick up all your speed going down the hill at the end of the backstretch) Lap times should be pretty accurate though and is how I got the 2:12.74. Stock Bridgestones and only cat delete mod. Upper 50s temps. I bet with slicks (275x35x18 on +45 wheels fit) I could dip below 2:10 and carry 5mph more down the straights..... in my commuter car.

cwajciec great driving. Your upper esses entry speed is good. Without more tire and/or downforce you are probably at the limit of safe speed through there. In my race car I go through the upper esses at about 120 with my foot to the floor and turn 10 at about 100 ish. Otherwise good driving what group where you with at that event? Let me know when you are going to be there next time and I'll bring out the F and we can have fun.

Thanks Bigcloud. I run with the SVT Cobra guys since they are a great bunch of folks (and I tracked my 93 Cobra in the past). Advanced group. I think I'll do a chump race and then SVT Superfest April 22-24. Let me know if you need more drivers for your race car
