Never forget the most important part on the car is the nut behind the wheel. I am fully confident if I could shoehorn into an F1 car, I would still suck at driving it. When you are in a group at essentially the same level, horsepower makes up for a lot. Once you get in a group where there are some skilled drivers, you'll lose your horsepower advantage and you'll be scratching your head trying to figure out how that guy in a stock Miata dogged the crap out of you through the esses.
On my second track weekend, there was a guy in a GTR. He was barely pulling away from me. There was another guy in a fully race prepped Panoz, and I passed him with ease, especially the time he spun out right in front of me coming out of turn 14 onto the front straight. A year later, I'm in the intermediate group and there's another GTR. He blew past me like I missed a gear, and his instructor said they weren't even starting to push it hard. Same was true for Corvettes. Couldn't do anything to keep ahead of them in the intermediate group. Seriously, it's not the car!
