IMO this is perfect for bumper-to-bumper warranty claim. If the dealership is dicking you, try Lexus corporate.

I have this too (lifeless trunk) and I just had a new IS loaner for a week and the trunk operated and felt the exact same way so I am leaning towards that is the way it was designed and supposed to be???

I ordered up a set of those trunk struts this morning, and I've already gotten the shipping notification. So, despite them not being fulfilled by Amazon, they'll still be here pretty quickly!

I wish there could be an aftermarket upgrade to the shocks to make it feel as great as our hood lift system is.
Mike (Figs) ..... Hint....hint :-)))

It doesn't need it. When mine was brand new in 2008 the trunk lifted effortlessly. Now I have to pull it up, and it just barely holds itself unless I lift it fully. This has been on my "list" of things I need to do. Along with a new switch for the trunk release. The rubber cover is completely disintegrated, and unfortunately the only fix is to purchase a whole new switch, and it surely isn't cheap.

I have never experienced it working properly as I bought the car 2years old but only with only 6k miles on it.
I find it pretty disappointing, for the car of this level and price. The system being shot after such a short time is shameful!! This is a flawed design for sure. What a joke, the trunk shocks in any cheap Saturn last at least five years.
Time to have bunch of us having our hands slammed by the trunk to trigger a recall :-)

FYI, I replaced my trunk struts tonight. It took me about 15 minutes, including figuring out how to pull down the trunk liner, and the best tools to use to pry the clips off of the old struts. New struts are on, and the trunk opens MUCH easier! As others have mentioned, once it gets a bit past the halfway point, the struts take over, and push the trunk open.

For $70 and 15 minutes, it was well worth it. Next up is my sunroof seal!

Cool thanks for sharing. Guess I know what I'm doing this week.

Installed the eBay units today. I would only recommend shooting some silicone spray lube on the shaft before installing. Mine were a little noisy, and after a quick shot of lube on the shaft, they got silent immediately.

Trunk self lifts from 2/3 up again very nicely.

Yes, I forgot to mention, mine were extremely noisy at first, as well. Hilariously so, in fact. Thankfully, after fully opening and closing the trunk a few times, the noise disappeared, no lube required... thankfully, because I didn't have any on-hand.

Default Which Brand Did y'all have success with?

Do not buy this brand from Amazon. Haixun. Only $29, but 1/2" too long, couldn't make it fit.

Sad to say, but Rock Auto has the same hood mounted Sachs unit for half the price. Might want to shop a bit.
