Default Anyone have experience with the RR Racing Air/Oil Separator

I did a search and didn't see a thread for this. Was on the RR Racing website reading about the Air/Oil Separator. Do any of you track guys experience this oil problem and have any of you used this item?

I saw this as well and was wondering if this would eliminate the puff of smoke that comes out of the exhaust on hard acceleration or if the two are unrelated.

^^^Talking to Rafi about this product and he was explaining to me in technical detail that what your talking about (puff of smoke on hard acceleration) would be remedied by the air/oil separator. I think he'll jump on today if he sees this post and give a technical explanation for this product!

I did 6 track days in 10 months and never saw any blue smoke. That would have been a little alarming to say the least Just happy to have more options for the F. Especially for the car who hit the track. We need all the help we can get

Looks easy enough.

Speaking of smoke coming out of the exhaust on hard acceleration, I never noticed mine did this until last week when I had a friend driving behind me and he noticed a puff of smoke while I was accelerating.

Hi All,

Just to give you an indication of how much oil gets sucked into the intake. On one of our track days, we accumulated the oil over just four 20 minute track sessions at NJMP Thunderbolt. I poured into a mineral water bottle and it made it to about 2"... so that's quite a bit of oil.

Now, if you were just driving your car aggressively on the street, it may take a few months of driving to accumulate that much oil, nevertheless, a significant amount of PCV oil vapors end up in the intake and burn in the combustion chamber:

If you pull out your PCV hose from the intake manifold, you will likely see it is wet with oil:

Almost forgot to mention this Topgear video which really shows the oil smoke well.

I bet you what happened here is the Stig was flogging the car on the track for a while and accumulated a bunch of oil in the intake which was getting sucked in as he was standing waiting for the go-ahead to run the timed lap... so as he punches it, all the accumulated oil burnt in one shot.

With that much smoking, I am quite certain the ECU would have knocked back timing and reduced power.

Here is the video link, fast forward to 8:07 to see the smoke screen:-)

Same thing happened to us at the track when we ran a Ford Mustang club track day. A few of the Mustang guys saw the smoke, walked up to me and kindly informed me that my Lexus likely blew the motor:-) I didn't even notice the smoke, its not obvious unless you are really looking for it.

I get flagged every time I'm out at the track. The marshal pulls me off to have a talk and I tell him it's the same story every time, the car has a defect. As soon as I burn off enough oil, the car will stop smoking.

Rafi,

I understand it is intended that the air/oil separator be used with your racing intake to eliminate oil ingestion to the combustion cycle. Is there still an appreciable amount of oil ingestion, on race days, if a traditional style intake is used with this separator?

How easy is this to install?

It looks fairly straight forward but I'm not sure where the Stock PCV system is and how this would connect to it?

Any DIY instructions?

and how does this thread fit in with this system as it seems to contradict this catch can concept: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...catch-can.html
