Had this done at Hennessey Lexus Gwinnett along with the cooling fan recall. They really tried, but were unable to keep the original harness protector intact. Ordering a new one, and will replace when it arrives.

Had both done and I guess I got lucky. My 08 harness made it.

did they order it for you, or you ordered the piece and just replacing it yourself?

They ordered it and are installing it unless I can talk them into just handing it over to me so I can install it.

quick questions. i got this recall awhile back but i think its time to act upon it.

1. what happens if decide not to do this?

2. what exactly will they do to the car and should i be worried about anything besides that plastic piece breaking which mine prob wont. ive checked it to see how if it was brittle and its not.

3. any parts or services i mind as well do since they are doing this? IE , water pump, etc

reason i ask is i see people are getting new radiators, coolant tanks, etc.

Mine wasn't brittle either. It is broken. I still need to follow up and ask again where my new one is.

Finally got mine fixed. And if you live in CA with a smog check, don't forget to get the Certificate for the fix! Any Lexus dealer should have it, which is a small slip they sign off with your VIN.

With respect to your question #1, in Cali, you cannot register your car if you cannot provide the dealer-issued certificate to the DMV at the time registration is required. Don't know if something like this exists in North Carolina.

^^ Ken is spot on....

I just received my Second Letter from Lexus USA.. "Follow Up Notice" yesterday.

I got my First letter approx. 1 year ago..

Arriving together with my CA DMV Registration Renewal...

You can only avoid this for so long before you run out of time and it has to be done.. (by Law)

Coincidentally, my car has been at the dealership Since Tuesday..

I will be posting a thorough follow up on the repairs done to my car in my next post..

I'm glad your dealership took the proper remedy. Mine was exactly the same, as the dealer was unable to salvage the piece. Instead of piecing it back up with black tape, the service advisor informed me that the part would need to be ordered and installed. I honestly don't care if it was broken, but for this advisor to let me know and communicate with me about any issues while in their care- that is what makes the entire process less of a hassle.

Thanks Brian...!!

It's going Great so far.. There's a few things being addressed while its under the knife..
All those years of not going to the dealership eventually catch up..

For the sake of this thread I made a Quick Reference Guide or Glossary of Terms to help others that will need to go through this process.

More details to come on my repairs soon...

Below is a pic of the IS F specific "ELF KIT" (can not be purchased as shown).
But you can buy each gasket individually..

Default Place To Go In SF Bay Area For ELF Recall & Other Recalls

After reading some of the threads in these forums, seeing my therapist, getting drugs, spending a day in solitude, I finally got the nerve up to take my virgin 08 ISF with only 1634 miles to Magnussen Lexus in Fremont - I have seen all the horror stories of broken wiring harnesses, sensors and other damage and would not have taken the car in at all with this mileage but this F_ing State of ours (the only state I know of that does this) was holding me hostage on my registration renewal to get it done. So I am here to report I made it through this process without a scratch, broken wiring harness, broken sensor, or scar of any type. The reason for my recovery is the service writer - Dave Kaplan - he is a true Lexus enthusiast and a former tech. I also thank Monte Munoz - the service manager for the connection to Dave & the unknown technician that did the work on my car! I am a retired service writer, technician & machinist (so I know what goes on in the repair business) and have never seen someone with the kind of understanding council & service Dave provided me. So if any of you are cursed like I am caring about your vehicle - go see Dr. Dave - he can't prescribe any drugs (other than possibly an aspirin) but he will find you a cold drink (possibly a pastry), get you through the process, out of your hostage situation, mentally stable & running down the road again
