DIY Repainted calipers from blue to burnt copper on my USB IS-F
#48
What temperature on average do the brakes get up to? I found caliper paint rated for 900 deg F and engine paint rated for around 400 deg F. Problem is the orange that i want is only in the engine paint, so wondering if 400 deg F will be resistant enough? I really cant see our brakes getting even close to that number but thought id ask anyways!

Soooo... I’m 110% following in your footsteps. When I scored a set of used Wilwood/RRRacing 4-pot rears the previous owner had painted pearl mica to match his car, it made repainting a no-brainer... as did burnt orange being my alma mater-turned-employer’s school color! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
In addition, though I’ve tracked her hard, my F’s caliper logos refuse to turn gold despite the clear coat starting to fail. Odd.
That all said, what’s durability been like on yours? Have you tracked your F since painting? Any other advice in hindsight? I’m starting with the rears now, and the paint stripping has been only about 80% effective. Will the acetone help with the rest, or should I just sand/dremel? Or keep applying stripper? Also, sanding is primarily to help the primer stick, correct?
Thanks!
