Default failed illinois emissions with headers and O2 sims?

Any Illinois guys with headers and O2 sims pass emissions in this *&%# state? I went to the Lombard location and it didn't state that I failed just said incomplete due to the O2 sensors. ideas?

it just will say incomplete/unready. i don't think that is considered fail unless the rules have changed.. friend of mine has o2 sims on his LSX but never had a problem getting renewed. did they tell you to come back?

I have sikky headers and full borla. it does say incomplete but the guy wouldn't pass me and said it's not a failed test and said to come back in a week. ???

imported1, which location did your friend go to? would this make any difference at all? I had headers, exhaust, no cats and sims on my is350 and passed in 2011!

my buddy goes to schaumburg.. i've been looking at the epa website because i didn't know they wouldn't allow incomplete. strange.. maybe the rules changed? I know many people who run o2 sims and had no problems passing.

I went out to my car and checked the test report and the status for both sets of O2 sensors stated not ready. not sure if that is new or not?

sorry to hear this. This is a topic that I dont see discussed so much here. All these people with exhaust mods but not sure who is passing and who is not. Especially for our CA members.

Yeah illinois is just OBDII. No visual or sniffer either.

I passed with no issues with PPE and O2 sims. When was the last time your battery was disconnected? If recently you just have to drive more to complete the drive cycles necessary for the O2 sensors to report as ready.

Thanks for the link caymandive. I did just have my spark plugs changed and oil. My wrench said he didn't disconnect the battery but I will follow that link and try again.

Its not if, there are definitely not ready status indicators coming up. That's why his car is failing.

Lexus has a specific drive cycle to ensure the readiness indicators are all properly set. The wife had this problem with her Scion, and I looked up the drive cycle on TIS, then told her what route to take (about a 15 minute drive), and all was good.

so I take it after reading that thread that the drive cycle is what I need to do? just need to clarify this.

4. AIR-FUEL RATIO (A/F) AND HEATED OXYGEN (HO2) SENSOR MONITORS (ACTIVE AIR-FUEL RATIO CONTROL TYPE)

(a) Preconditions

The monitor will not run unless:

2 minutes or more have elapsed since the engine was started.
The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) is 75°C (167°F) or more.
Cumulative driving time at a vehicle speed of 30 mph (48 km/h) or more exceeds 6 minutes.
Air-fuel ratio feedback control is performed.

(b) Drive Pattern for front air fuel ratio sensor and heated oxygen sensor

(1) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(2) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(3) Turn the Techstream ON.

(4) Clear DTCs 2UR-GSE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR (2008 IS F) .

(5) Start the engine, and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F).

(6) Drive the vehicle at between 50 mph (80 km/h) and 80 mph (128 km/h) for at least 10 minutes.

(7) Change the transmission to 2nd gear.

(8) Accelerate the vehicle to 40 mph (64 km/h) or more by depressing the accelerator pedal for at least 10 seconds.

(9) Soon after performing step (8) above, release the accelerator pedal for at least 9 seconds without depressing the brake pedal, in order to execute fuel-cut control.

(10) Allow the vehicle to decelerate until the vehicle speed declines to less than 6 mph (10 km/h).

(11) Repeat steps from (8) through (10) above at least 3 times in one driving cycle.

(c) Monitor Status

(1) Check the Readiness Monitor status displayed on the Techstream.

(2) If the status does not switch to Complete, make sure that the preconditions have been met, and then perform steps from (5) through (11) in Drive Pattern above.

YEUP...

If the system is in "NOT READY" mode... Then its a NO GO..

Luckily my CA smog tester checked mine before he started my test & passed me..
