Default Gear indicator? Any options than looking at the dash?

Just wanted to know if there are any alternatives for gear indicator than looking at the dash. I find that when I'm shifting 'manually', I'm looking at the dash too often.

I miss the tactile feeling of the true manual and knowing which gear I am in without having to look at the dash.

I'm more concerned with down shifting and the gear the car is in on the first downshift when entering a turn per say

Looks like you may need to be more intimate with ISF and its rev match and throttle blip downshift.

Ridden motorcycles for 15 years, but never raced. Sequential is good, but still miss the tactile sensation of a normal manual.

Also when you downshift with the paddles, sometimes you go from 8 to 6 and sometimes you go from 8 to 5 or even 4. so it's not always a linear sequential shift vs a motorcycle it's always 1 up or 1 down.
