Default Just Purchased a 2008 Red ISF previously owned by Member Lexsane

So I recently purchased a red ISF with 22k miles on it. I'm loving this car on the highway its a beast. After reading threw the forums I realized my car was owned by a member on here by the name of Lexsane. I have been getting a Cel light (p0420 check vsc) i clear it but it comes back in 50miles. It looks like he put a custom exhaust and a SRT INTAKE . I've read horrible things about the srt intake now I got to hunt down a oem air box. From what I read to fix the cell light. I should check for exhaust leaks and maybe replace the o2 sensors on the exhaust. Some say the SRT Intake ecu bull**** it comes with can cause this also. I've searched threads that lexsane posted to see if he had this issue after installing the exhaust or the intake. I pmed him with no response it seems he traded in for a viper or something. Anyone on here knew him and remember him having this issues? Maybe he knew what was wrong before he traded it and could save me some diagnosing time. I wonder if he beat this car up or took care of it well lol

These two threads should interest you:

and

I see no mention of exhaust modification.

It defiantly has some type of custom exhaust . Looks like a tru dual and I am pretty sure the Cats were removed . Its pretty loud sounds nice a little drone in 8th gear but sounds mean and throaty the rest of the time. I got to check to see if has headers or is stock cause its loud. I am thinking maybe there could be a small exhaust leak or they damaged the o2 sensors when installing the exhaust . I wish lexane would respond so I could know if it started happening after the exhaust or the intake.. Dam check vsc light.. Thanks for the links Lowridaz

Have you tried resetting the code yet? If not then, along with visually inspecting everything, just reset it and see if it comes back. p0420/p0430 isn't uncommon for any F owner with headers and/or modified exhaust.

I'm not saying it's guaranteed to happen, or happens all the time, but it does seem to be the most common CEL by far.

sorry to hear about the problem. Cant believe how common the CELs are with exhaust mods ( mostly headers). Kind of frustrating to buy a new car and have issue with it right off the bat.

I'm surprised by all the CEL's I'm reading about too. Knock on wood, I've had my headers installed for nearly 4 years now and not a single CEL.

Kind of alarming to be honest. I have had headers on a previous car and wasnt even aware they could create issues like this. I wonder if its an install issue or product design issue. Bottom line is something isnt right with the newer sets it seems

Very frustrating! I've only had it for two weeks. I'm not sure if it def has headers. I've removed the plastics and looked around the engine bay and I can't tell. My jack won't fit underneath so I can't get a better look. From what I can see i think the o2 bungs don't look like there welded to good. But i could be wrong I need to get under there and look close. Maybe it's leaking from there. I'm just going to order new downstream o2 sensors check for leaks and replace them. Yes I have reset it the engine light twice. And it comes back on in 50miles

How do you like the srt intake FraganciaF? All I read is horrible things and I am pretty sure I am going to remove it. For 800 bucks you would think it would be the best one. It does sound awesome. But im not willing to lose horsepower for sound. I don't get it.

not all CELs are from headers but the members with headers have CELs more than anyone on this forum. Very accurate observation and I am not the only one to notice. Even Caymandive who has them has noticed the same thing. Regardless of wether its install or the unit ( probably install) the fact still remains that if you have headers you run a MUCH HIGHER chance of throwing a CEL/VSC light and have the limp mode issue . Still haven't seen a stock car have an O2 sensor issue or throw a CEL with oem parts. No other way to look at it. Its the nature of the beast or the price of admission to the header club I guess

With all due respect Lou , as you can clearly see, the people with the CELs are usually people who did headers ( seems PPE more than Sikky just based on the number of threads but not able to quantify ) . I would just ask you to please look at this massive number of threads. Im sure there are more, but its late.

Damn !! Thats a whole lotta threads. Im surprised someone didn't tell them all to search. LOL
Its great that we as a community can amass the amount of information that we have . Even after all the years on CL I am still amazed. Maybe this list will make searching for issue in the future easier ( I doubt the CELs will stop, especially as the cars age) for other members.

I would have to say that I'm one that definitely likes the idea of headers, but hasn't pulled the trigger on them because I don't want the CEL issues. As someone who has always modded his cars and had dealt with the problems that come along with modding, I'm enjoying the fact that I haven't seen a CEL one time on this car, and kind of want to keep it that way.

Headers are definitely the best power mod for this car though.
