Default Brake Light (switch) Sensitivity

I tried searching but couldnt find anything related.

I dont know if this is just my car or just normal, not really a big deal but just interested. When I apply the brakes I can slow the car down without the brake lights coming on. I see that the lights arent coming on so i step on the pedal harder.
Its annoying when in traffic because im worried ill get hit from behind and if i want the brake lights to come on then i cant do a slow roll to a stop.
Any ideas? or is this normal?

If your brake lights are working and you aren't getting a C1249 DTC then the switch is working.

You can adjust the stop lamp control switch located above the brake pedal. There is a 14mm nut holding it in place....loosen the nut and then you can back off the threads of the switch to place it closer to the brake pedal which will activate it sooner thus signaling your brake lights sooner.

NP!
But yes, the switches do go bad occasionally and throw a C1249- OPEN CIRCUIT IN STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT. Luckily, its only a $35 part!

Only $35? I don't know I'd say that about a switch. Kinda pricey for what it is.

As an example, the contactor on my AC unit outside died. The part from an HVAC company on the Internet was $79. A service call was going to be $250. I got the same unit from Allied Electronics for $11. Too bad there's no easy way to get automotive parts the same way.

My favorite was when the guy doing contract maintenance on our HVAC told the wife we had a bad capacitor on the upstairs blower motor. She told him to replace it. They charged $88 for the part. I took the box and went to Allied. $1.87 for a single unit. talk about mark up. I fired them.

Oh for sure, I'd agree! But for $35 there isn't much you can "fix" on these cars...$35 feels like a win to me. lol Previously, I bought the Denso flasher relay just before learning about the Allied solution at 1/4 the cost for the same module.

Default you cant be the guy on the other thread...

Mike addressed the issue perfectly! the electronic British functions, the slippiage is mechanical and is OBVIOUSLY being caused by the switch position being off.

the whole shaft the button runs through is threaded for a reason, ut has to be positioned properly and ther are engineered for variance.

hopefully some one explains in this thread how to get that panel off, those hidden plastic mount points are secure af.

yes 35 is super cheap for a new switch, however if you dont adjust the new one properly when you install it you will have the same problem: brake lights on too, late or all the time, or anything in between those extremes
