That's right...normal mode will feel like an IS350. You'll need to put it in Sport and Manual mode to really explore what the car can do.

I don't think buying an 08, then adding all the mechanicals to make it "like a 2011+" is worth the all the potential issues. Changing out the diff, steering ECU, and suspension parts will probably be more than $10k after labor and parts.
Just wait and save a bit more to get a 2011+ with drivetrain warranty at least.

Those upgrades will cost no more than $5000 installed. Keep in mind not using OEM suspension, Many aftermarket alternatives will do the trick.

OS Giken LSD - $2700
2011 Steering ECU - $450
2011+ OEM suspension, seen it go for $500 on classifieds, or just go aftermarket
PPE Headers - $1400
PPE Dual Mode Exhaust + cats $3000 (what I would get). Can go cheaper.
Joe Z Intake - $140
use rest of that 10k for labor to install

I used to own an M3. It was a great car, loved it, but 75% of the it was at the stealership. So my point is German cars are like women, they are very beautiful and sweet but unreliable that cheat, but if you don't mind that keep having them. I'd rather have a not so great looking chick, but at least she's faithful and reliable.

I'm going backwards: prob getting a 135i or 335i cpo in the next week from a 2012 c63. Going to upgrade the house and need to move some dollars. Makes me puke every time I think about it. I'd rather get a vasectomy than this..,

I as you owned a space gray 335i coupe with a Dinan Stage 2 tune. When the car worked it was a rocket ship, however due to many issues I traded it in for CPO IS-F. The IS-F has been undoubtedly a better car from a reliability perspective but I also think it is more fun to drive in road and track. The eight speed transmission is very quick and if you do I/E and even I/H/E it transforms the car into even more of a beast. Best part is you can track it all day and then drive it day to day if you want without any major issues. You will not regret moving to an IS-F.

Used to have a E46 M3 and thought i still think its one of the best looking cars ever made, It was just too unreliable and way too expensive to maintain. I just bought the ISF yesterday with one main reason being reliability. I plan to drive this car for a few hundred miles.
