Purchasing an IS F - Third party warranty?
Hello all!
I will be purchasing a 2008 Lexus IS F in the near future. The dealership is offering a third-party, comprehensive warranty for an additional $3000 (2 years). If I do not make a claim in the first two years, I have the option of extending it for another 2 yrs, for $~150.
However, under this warranty I will have to adhere to a strict set of guidelines: No modifications to the engine, power-train, etc; mandatory oil-change every 6 months - which must be done at an authorized partner (e.g. Mr. Lube); and all other maintenance work must be done at an authorized partner. Regular maintenance items are not covered.
It had one previous owner who meticulously maintained the car, as the purchase includes all previous service records, which were done at a Lexus dealership. It drove excellent and only has 31 000 miles. Car is stock.
Given my situation, would you recommend that I purchase this warranty, or not? Has anyone had experience with a third-party warranty provider?
Thank you!

I highly doubt any unforeseen repair on a 2008 model with 31k miles on the odo will cost $3000+ over the next 2 years.
Granted, anything can happen to any car, ex: if there is a catastrophic failure of the engine, transmission, or any of the ECUs on the ISF, it will be over $3k in repairs, but such an event is rare and I've only read about them in the forums happening to 1 or 2 people. NAV breaking down or touchscreen not responding seems to be a more frequent occurrence with Lexus models and it will be over $3k to replace or you could send it in for the digitizer repair which would be much less.
Extended warranties are for your own peace of mind.
