My 3000GT VR-4 had lifter tick and it was constant sound it didn't fluctuate. I'm not sure what this could be but what lowbux's say it could well be the bearings on a tensioner. If it were a belt, there would be more of a squeal than a tick. There's some pretty high mileage F's out there that have had no adverse events due to this noise. I would say it would be safe to assume whatever the sound is a derivative of is somewhat on the harmless side.

I haven't noticed any weird idle or any performance loss since I've noticed the ticking. I've also read of other people having this problem with no issues. The noise only happens once the car is fully warmed up which is weird to me. I thought I would take it in to Lexus to have the noise looked at before my powertrain warranty is up. I don't really think it is a tensioner since it seems to come from near the back or underneath the motor, at least in my case.

I'll keep everyone updated with what they find.

I have the same noise on my IS250 and ISF. Have more than 100k miles on my IS250 and 54k on my F. Never have any issues. Sounds normal to me. I have read about this thicking sound on Toyota and Lexus motors that its normal. So Im not worried about it.

I get the inconsistent tap & slap every so often.. I almost know exactly how to replicate it & video it..

So far I’m not worried with 85K+ miles and extended warranty..

I had the option to tear into my motor, but my good friend (Lexus Tech) said not to bother..

We haven't had a BLOWN IS F motor reported as of yet..

GREAT PICS too..

Getting headers fixed this issue for me.

This has been Yamaha's standard answer since I bought my 1985 FJ1100 in 1985 and it ticked. This noise is a bit different though.

I've ordered a new tensioner and belt. I'll update after the install. Most likely next week.

Quick update....the dealership is waiting on one more part which should arrive tomorrow. They hope to have it running by tomorrow afternoon. I'll go down and drive it tomorrow or Saturday to see if the noise persists.

Update:

So I went and drove my car today after the dealer set the driver's side valve clearance on the low end of the spec. I drove the crap out of it for about 20 mins and didn't hear the ticking at all. So they washed my car and gave it back to me. I drove the car home about 25 miles and 1hour's time through traffic and still have not heard the noise. For some reason this has seemed to fix my problem. I also asked about the passenger side valves and they said that those were also in spec but in the middle of the spec.

Man I didn't realize how much better the ISF is over the '14 IS250 I was driving. I do like the steering wheel better in the 2014, I wonder if it would fit in my F?

I actually never had this noise until last week.
Its only after warmed up and driving it in sport+ Manual
And it really loud in D I have an I'm hedded to the dealer to discuss this issue.
It's sounds like broken bearings.

Just got the car back from the dealer .

They replaced the water pump 1hrs later still have the ticking sound so loud the some one said sounds like your car is going to explode exaggerated sure but it's loud.

How is this normal when the car never made that sound ever just untill about a week ago.
Any one have any more info ?

Did the service advisor or techs hear your noise? I dealt with the service advisor and diagnostic specialist at my dealer. They interfaced with the Field Technical Specialist. So far after my valve adjustment I haven't heard the sound. I do think I notice a little more rocker noise but it isn't the knocking type sound that I had before.

Is there another dealer close to you that you can try?

Did the install a couple of days ago. Very straight forward, took about 40 minutes. My engine noise is gone. Today was perfect conditions for it to make the noise, and it did not and has not since I changed the belt and tensioner.

I'm not absolutely convinced this always works, but it definitely worked for my car.
