Usless the oil cap said synthetic oil only. You dont have to put it in. Most people do tho just so they dont have to change thier oil as much. The only car that comes to my mind that needs synthetic is the dodge dart. The isf comes factory with non-synthetic oil.

There is no oil analysis out there that suggests synthetic is either necessary for the ISF or harmful to it. Oil debates are worthless without actual data. Like many other members, I've run both full synthetic (Amsoil) and conventional oil in my car and observed absolutely no difference in performance or gas mileage. I feel safe using either. I would say that I'd feel more comfortable running longer intervals between changes on synthetic than conventional, but I can't even back that up with data.

So in short, your dealership is full of ______.

FWIW - I was at the Lexus dealership today and they recommend Toyota 0w-20 synthetic in Florida.

Based on no data whatsoever, I get full synthetic just to lengthen the time of my oil change intervals. I'm a lazy bastard, and I'm okay with this.

I do synthetic strictly because I live in AZ and we need all of the help we can with viscosity breakdown with very high temps. . When you add that to the greater oil change interval it just works better for me . To each his own ....

0w-20 is NOT recommended for the 2UR-GSE. Lexus specifically says the 2UR-GSE uses 5w-30 and a 5000 mile OCI on every model from 2008 to 2014. This dealer is not reading the documentation available on TIS. I would not let them work on my car.

That's great.

Factory fill is non-synthetic. The little Japanese mad scientists at Yamaha know what they're doing (usually) so I'd go ahead and fill it with what's specified by the mad scientists.

I was using Castrol 5W-30 full synthetic since 1200 miles when I finished break in. I just changed the oil this weekend after 4,000 miles and the oil was pretty black.

I went with Redline oil 5W-30 this time. (OEM filter of course) Will see how long this oil last.

Car runs great.

There is nothing you can determine from the color of the used oil. The only way to know if the oil is used up is to test it for TBN (total base number) and for viscosity. I run Red Line in my Supra with 10k mile OCI, and Mobil 1 in my F with 12k mile OCI. All my oil decisions are based on used oil analysis.
