Default Drag Race Thoughts and Questions

I took the ISF to the drag strip at Pacific Raceways yesterday to the Import Face Off event. Sadly, they wouldn't let me run in the All Motor class because of the V8 (how silly).

I ran the car at a different drag strip with street radials to a best of 12.6 about a month ago. Preparation for this event included 275/40/17 Nitto drag radials, Trick 101 unleaded gas (less than a quarter tank), removed spare, books, carpets, floor mats, jack, anything extra in the car. The temperature was 70 degrees, track prep was excellent. I did a 3-4 second burnout 1st and 2nd gear, I had VSC and Traction off, sport mode on. I tried various launching techniques, including torque braking (left foot brake as hard as I could while trying to raise the RPM’s) to various degrees. The best time I could get was 12.52 at 114.

I tried to take the slack of the drive line and just mash it, but it kind of felt like the car would bog down at the line? I felt like I had too much traction! I had the DR down to 18lbs of air pressure, they never lost traction or even chirped on any of my runs. I was shifting after the beep just as it would tach out. I feel like I either need a better power/weight ratio by either more power or less weight to get rid of that bogging in 1st gear at the line. Would it be wise to add in tire pressure next time to maybe get the wheels to loosen up a bit off the line?

Best 60 foot was 1.98 or so….. Looking at caymandive’s notes on his runs I noticed he weights 160lbs, which is a 70lb advantage right there over me. He also has the lightweight battery which is another 40lbs or so. Maybe I won’t ever get into the 11’s because of car weight? Should I reset the ECU before I run next time?

The car received A LOT of compliments on the exhaust/performance. I enjoyed taking down the C6’s at the track, and had a lot of fun trying to stay ahead of the C6 Z06 that I ran against a few times (even till the 330 foot mark lol).

Any thoughts? I feel like I’m doomed because I myself weight 230 (at 12% body fat, not a fat *** lol).

They wouldn't let you run in the all motor class because they thought you put an aftermarket motor in it? Or swapped the motor?

Strange.

Practice your launch, get that 60' down! Your trap speed indicates your car is running strong

Yep, couldn't run in the all motor class, I thought it was pretty dumb!

See I thought my trap speed says my car is running weak! With I/H/E I thought other guys were getting closer to that 120 mark?!

I agree though, I need more practice on the launch. I don't think brake torquing it is the way to go. Its wild how the simplest thing is the difference of 4 tenths of a second. I can see consistency is key.

did you find out what the DA was for the day you were running? that is a huge factor along with track prep and wind direction.

that will do it. when I ran a 12.35 the DA was around 100 and temps in the high 40's. that was just borla catback too. keep playing with the psi in your DR's to get a good balance of grip out of the hole. fyi, I was running 35 psi in my M/T et streets with no traction problems. good luck on better times.

You just answered you own questions. DA, weight. I don't think you could do much better than 1.9x 60' with those conditions. I do 1.8x only when I'm near sea level and I'm 170 pounds and my tires and wheels are even lighter than yours.

Don't forget to short stage/shallow stage, etc. That makes a good difference. Also, with that much traction, you can up the PSI a little for better trap speed. What's your diameter of your tires? Stock is 26 inches but we run 245/40/18s which are smaller than stock which helps also with the 60' - like getting a higher ratio diff. I'm thinking that running 25" tires or even 24.5 inch rears would be even better. I was seriously contemplating running small 24.5 inch rears to get an edge over Caymandive LOL but I don't want my car looking ridiculous LOL.

Sounds good, 25.6 is the diameter, I'm running Nitto 275/40/17 DR.

Do you recommend VSC off as well? So it does make sense to up the tire PSI? Man, I want to run with you guys but it looks like I'm going to need to magically add some serious power.

To me your 60 is way high for having drag radials. 1.9 is not hooking or your not launching hard enough.

114 is also low. I would expect 117+

The tire pressure is way to low, I expect that to be the culprit of your low traps. They shouldn't be lower than 25ish.
I also ran 275 40 17" MT ET streets. 28 psi and cut a 1.7. i''ll rev to 1k-1.5k on the last yellow and go.

Don't be afraid to go a bit more hardcore on the burnout and launch.
