Default Windshield Wiper Repair

The right side wiper is no longer functioning on my 2008 IS-F. When running my wipers last week the right side was moving slower than the left then eventually stopped. The wiper now seems very loose and doesn't operate. Left side still works fine. Are there two separate motors or is it linked and a belt came off that I need to tighten or something?

You might want to talk to the dealer. I'm pretty sure they just put out a recall for wipers on 06-12 IS's

Yeah I read that earlier yesterday, I'm just hoping that it's part of it. Thanks

There's more detailed information in TIS. They're going to replace the nuts that hold on the wiper arms. Apparently the original units had too much friction and did not get fully tightened at the factory. This affects MY2008 to MY2011 for the ISF with the change in place mid-July production 2011. Of interesting note, there are 4400 affected units, so it's pretty clear the F is pretty small production.

IS F production numbers in Canada for the years 2010 and 2011 were less than 200 units respectively for each year.

Thanks for the clarity on the effected vehicle production.

Sorry I couldn't check out the wipers thanks to Kody's 5-0 call. LOL

No problem, I appreciate it. I'll take it into the dealer sometime this week and hopefully the recall will cover it.

I had the same issue on my '09 F on the right side wiper. It stopped working during a rain storm but the driver side worked just fine. I pried off the small cover plate on both wipers (at the base of the arms) and found that the nut was loose on the right side but the left was tight. I repositioned the right arm and tightened the nut and never had that issue again. Traded it in for a '12 so it's good to know that the nut used has been updated.

Funny I read this post a few weeks ago thinking that this may not happen to me.. sure enough this morning we had some snow fall and my wipers were frozen in place. I started up my car to get it warmed up and my wipers automatically tried to wipe since they were in the rain-sensing mode. After cursing at myself I removed all the snow and ice but it was too late, the passenger-side wiper is dead. I'm going to try the above fix to get it working again.

Edit:
It was an easy fix: pry off the cover at the base of the wiper as shown below, tighten the 14mm nut and good to go!
