Default The "tank avg" gauge is killing my fun!

Is anyone else out there a little OCD about watching the gas mileage gauge in your IS-F? I know I am. I'm always watching my mileage and trying to get a better "score" by getting better mileage per tank. I do a about a 70/30 city/highway split on average per tank. Obviously if I'm doing a longer trip that's mostly highway my numbers go way up, but if I can't at least squeeze 18mpg per tank out of the car, I feel somewhat disappointed. It's completely an OCD thing though, because I've noticed that in an effot to keep my numbers up, I accelerate slower, don't romp on the gas pedal much, and tend not to even use sport mode that much. That's NOT how this car was meant to be driven!! It's not a money thing either, because honestly, if I averaged even 5mpg less that's a rather insignificant cost in the grand scheme of things.

With that said, I reset my computer about 5000mi ago and I'm getting 19.6mpg total. Per tank I'll usually get anywhere from 22 (mostly highway and some city) to 17 (mostly city and traffic). I've gotten as high as 27mpg on a 200mi highway trip. I think I got 13 or 14 on the first tank after I picked the car up.

A track weekend will fix that. A few tanks at 5.2 mpg will definitely skew your numbers.

The nearest track to here is unfortunately about 4hrs away. But I still want to go... and yes, I can imagine the gas mileage is ridiculously low after tracking. I swear under WOT this car gets maybe 1-2mpg.

Although the F is a high performance sports sedan, I'll check out the MPG almost every time I drive. I do this with all my cars whenever I drive them, not just the F. But as far as beating a score, I have given up on getting it to even 20 MPG. It's much more enjoyable to mash that pedal when you get the chance (and when you know there are no cops around). Enjoy your ride and definitely find time to use SPORT mode more. The car wants you to!

Thanks. This is the encouragement I need to drive this calendar the right way. I'm just a bit ocd with mpgs. I have been like this with every car I've had that has one of these gauges.

i came to the conclusion that i prob will never get good MPG with my isf due to me always changing gears at higher revs just to hear the engine/exhaust. lol.

Yeah, I've given up trying to get good gas mileage. I drove mostly city and average around 16mpg. I don't think we should be expecting good mileage from a 5.0 V8 around the city.

run no mufflers and no resonator like me, and you'll be wanting to hear the sound of that V8 all the time and you'll consistently see 13-15mpg average...lol

I usually look at mpg when I fill up, my combined avg is typically 23 with some WOT. I just had the joe z exhaust installed this weekend and so I'm watching my mpg close on the 1st tank of gas! I do like the fact that the sound is there in the low end so I don't have to stand on the gas to here the ROAR. So I hope to see similar numbers. Wishful thinking

There is a new one that's recently opened not quite as far. Porsche club that my wife instructs for had an event there this year.

They don't have all that many events but worth checking every now and then.

You gotta have skillz.

And maybe a less aggressive auto-correct on your phone.
