Default 60,000 Service, Fees and Spark Plugs

Just dropped my car off at the dealership for the 60K service. The charge is $400 which Im fine with. But they want to charge me another $410 for spark plugs...Total $800 and change...

Question: $410 for Spark plugs? Seems way over the top. Am I missing something? Is it that labor intensive? If its fair, then Im ok w/ it.

IMO.....Depends on your part costs. Iridium spark plugs (8 X $16.00 = $128 plus labor 2.5 hours at $120 per hour...seems reasonable for a dealership...you should be questioning what the other $400.00 is being charged for?

$810 definitely seems pretty high. I'd ask them for a detailed report on what the costs are for parts and labor.

spark plugs aren't hard to do...but they definitely require some patience. I think it took me around 4 hours because everything was so tight/cramped. You gotta make sure you got some "wobble" extensions as well as extension joints. Makes for a good weekend project. You an buy the plugs on Sewell for like 9 bucks each.

That is just insane!!! If you can do it yourself do it or ask someone to help you if you need the extra help or knowledge. By doing it yourself you get peace of mind knowing whatever it is is being replaced. Like a few mentioned who is to say they will actually replace those items? And you would never know.

You could call another dealership to verify costs as well.

If you would never know if the plugs were replaced or not......It begs the question "Why replace them in the first place".....I never replaced them in my 1999 GS300 and when I traded it in, it had 100K miles on it....

i just found out recently from a friend that the tech that did my car at my local lexus dealership kept my expensive amsoil oil and put in the regular lexus oil. at least he changed it, but now im forced to work on my on car for mostly everything. can't even trust a major lexus dealership.

It's the few that do shady things like this^ that make people second guess going to those who are supposed to be "the best" at taking care if our cars!
