Borla Axle-back Exhaust - feedback thread
Hi Everyone,
I am looking into getting Borla Axle-back Exhaust for my 2010 ISF.
I live in California, I need a street legal system. ( NO CAT-BACKs, JOE-Zs ...etc)
I am aware of ISSForged is coming out soon with their version,
I want to stay with the stock exhaust tips. So that one is not for me.
Please post your feedback on the BORLA Axle-back Exhaust.
Please emphasize on the difference vs. the stock system.
How long / how many miles on it?
Would you recomend it over the stock system?
Is there anything you do not like about it?

CA. V.C. 27151 No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5(commencing with Section 27200) of this chapter. No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.
With that being said, they are a lot of folks in California modding their exhausts.

I just can't remove the cats. You made me LOL really hard tho.
I will have no problem with emissions with BORLA axle-back.
I have a long experience with Magnaflow exhausts (love them).
Magnaflow does not have one for ISF, it would of been a no brainer for me.
On the other hand, you know your stuff.

I fully understand, understood before I made my post above. California is a funny state, I lived there for 25 years. But, they are extremely mod unfriendly. As I said, many folks modify their exhausts everyday and get away with it. But, I was just pointing out that there may be other issues than an emissions inspection. As I recall, inspections are done at gas stations and repair shops and knowing the right people and having enough money gets a you a pass.
However, you may get pulled over by a CHP and he may have a hair across his butt.
Now the question, would I modify my exhaust if I still lived in California, yep, in a heartbeat

I have this system and I cannot imagine you having any issues. It only starts coming alive when the secondary intake flap opens through full throttle. Just a slight difference at idle and normal RPM's.
I love this system as it has a much better flow than stock through the Y system and it is subtle when needed.

The Borla axle back does have a decent start-up and idle sound, but the exhaust sound didn't seem to be all that noticeable while driving compared to stock. What I did notice is that around 2000 rpm under load that it had an annoying but not loud "drone' sound which was surprising to hear considering how quiet the exhaust was otherwise.

I actually quite like the stock exhaust. I am hoping to upgrade to BORLA.
I do not want to ruin the car. I cannot really hear my stock exhaust inside the car.
I can hear the start-up. Is the BORLA's sound raspy in any way?
PLease explain the drone issue please.
I love when I hit the RPM sweetspot (4K) and the V8 growl kicks
in. I read some feedback earlier, that after the BORLA instalation,
the sweetspot was somewhat redused. (not as significant)
Can anyone confirm that, I would not want that to happen.

There are a couple of sound clips of the borla axle back on youtube. The only difference I would see with the axle back system is slightly a deeper and louder tone, slightly more than the stock exhaust system....
As for having a modified exhaust in CA, no cops or CHP will ever pull you over with this exhaust system, simple because it utilizes the stock exhaust tip, its not flashy at all, and its really quiet still. I'm pretty sure its way below the legal decibel level. If CHP had any suspicion of other illegal mods on the car (Nitrous, headers, etc), they'll send you to a state ref, but they're not going to waste their time with us. They rather target the Honda's/Acura's with K-series swaps with custom this and that.

I love it and would not be embarrassed taking high level exec's to lunch at all. I do not feel it drones and when you get on it, Jekyll &Hyde as it comes alive at full throttle. No downside at all in my opinion. Now keep in mind, if you are looking for the most gain, you will need a full system but if you are looking for a more performance minded and efficient axle back over stock, it is a great choice.

Since it was my car you were driving, I better add my input. Personally it was a little on the drone side for my tastes. That said you can drive around the issue. WOT is quite a bit more pissed off sounding.
Power gains? Meh, not really.
