225/40r18 on the front ... too small?
I am about to pick up some winter rims/tires for the F and the package comes with 18 G-Spiders with 225/40s on the front and 255/40s on the back. I know the back diameter matches up to what is recommended, but the fronts end up being about an inch smaller than the OEM size. So the question is, would it be s problem to have a smaller diameter tire on the front? Or will I be ok. Another question is would this throw off the odometer or speedo reading, or are those calculated off the rear wheels.
Thanks

Speed is calculated off the rear wheels only. I found this out when bedding in the rear brakes on jackstands.

From what I've seen 225/45 is the recommended size up front. What is the width of your rear wheel? 18x8? I'm looking for a winter set myself. Not sure how an 18x8 rim would fit a 255 sized tire and if it would be too stuffed..

Lobux, the rears are perfect, so as long as the speedo and and odo are run off of the rear tires, I'll be ok. I just don't want an incorrect readin off the fronts since they would be about an inch smaller overall.

The VSC might not like the smaller fronts, but the speedo won't care at all.

The VSC didn't care when I had 225 40 18s and 255 40 18s in the rear (1" difference in tires). Eventually, I wore out my old IS350 front tires and went up to the right sizes. The thing that bothered me was the wheel gap was fugly.

Ah - I missed what you were getting to - the odometer and speedometer use the same signal source, so if the speedo works correctly, the odometer will also work correctly.
