Pissed off at Optima. Probably won't buy another one. I was having slow cranking issues, likely because I've only done very short trips recently, so I put my charger on it and found this when I removed the terminal cover:

My brother uses a yellow top in his car and that piece of crap would die every few months. They're definitely not like they use to be.

Happened here two weeks ago. Actually had more on it. Never deep-cycled my Red -- just under 3 years old.

Hey Lance

Do you coat your terminals with Vaseline after the terminals are attached to the posts? I have for years and have never had issues with corrosion.

I don't. Any decent battery doesn't leak hydrogen from the terminals, especially one that costs north of $150. I really don't like having to clean off all the stuck on dirt and debris. I'd be more inclined use copper anti-seize if I were going to use anything.

optima's are not what they used to be, I used to exclusively run optima's but now have switch out of them completely. When sears has their platinum series those were very very good, but it looks like they've discontinued those as well.

Though honestly, I've come to the conclusion that unless there's a specific reason to run an optima or Odyssey battery ie internal battery in trunk, where you cannot run a vented battery. I'm ok with running what Costco has on their battery rack.

EDIT: who am I kidding, while the battery off costco's battery rack would do fine, I find myself looking for agm alternatives. It looks like oriely's has an AGM very reasonably priced and has a full 3 year warranty, though not as good as the die hard platiniums I think at 5 years...I'll have to check when I get a chance.

I recently replaced mine with an exide agm from Amazon and couldn't be happier with it. Plus the top is blue to match my car so that's a bonus. I do notice it starts much easier than the tired Toyota battery it replaced. Ymmv of course.

i had to replace the battery again on my GS 350. it was already warrantied by Lexus two years ago, they wanted about $150 pro-rated, but i went online on saw Sears die hard batteries with higher CCA for about $115 out the door. i thinks its 650 or 750 CCA amps. my F has a auto zone with about 550 CCA, but i'm going to replace with a Die Hard with 750 CCA

I'm a big believer in AGM batteries and now have one in both my F and my truck.

Lou, how has this battery been treating you the past 2 years?

This is a follow up to the thread that Roheel just started but this one is more in depth and longer so I thought I'd quote and ask you here since you put this link up in the other thread.

I just replaced my Optima YellowTop D75/25 with another one. Originally installed 4/2012.
No issues at all so hopefully another 5+ years with this one.

Still strong in the AZ heat. Just had my left knee replaced 3½ Weeks ago, and didn't drive until last Wednesday. Didn't even try to start it, but put it on my 40 year old charger, and when I went to start - vroom. I'm very happy with the Bosch AGM.

2 years ago I put in an Odyssey Extreme. It is the best battery I have ever owned hands down. The car often sits for weeks at a time (occasionally months) and starts with NO hesitation. I can absolutely recommend this battery.

I just had my battery replaced today for the 3rd time in 5 years. Lexus 84 month battery. ****ty thing is they keep dying every couple years. Good thing is they are 100% covered under the Lexus battery warranty so if this keeps up I'll never have to buy another battery as long as I own the car.

I have a Duralast from Autozone for over 3 years. Still as good as day 1.

I'm starting to think about getting the best warranty battery from walmart. Ok stop laughing. Batteries eventually will all die, at least with a long warranty and from walmart you'll always have an open walmart somewhat near you...
