I always tell them it has a limited production to make it seem super-cool and mysterious.
hahaha even here in socal, a lot of people have commented that they've never seen the F before. "did it come like that?" is a common question.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I thought it was 1500 per year, with only a certain number of those 1500 getting shipped to the U.S.

Lightbulb FYI for All...

Lexus's releases a Monthly & YTD sales report for the USA..

The problem is that the IS-F is lumped into the entire IS sales report..

Examples for latest June 2012 Sale Report:

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2012/07/0...-sales-report/

December 2010 - 2011

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2012/01/0...-sales-report/

December 2009 - 2010

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2011/01/0...ar-end-totals/

December 2008 - 2009

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2010/01/0...r-end-numbers/

December 2007 - 2008

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2009/01/0...-sales-report/

My guess since 2008, is that there are only approx 15K to 20K IS-F's ever made Globally...!!!

February 2008.. IS-F is began to be added to the "IS" TOTALS..

http://lexusenthusiast.com/2008/03/0...-sales-report/

^^ The first year in 2008, was the biggest selling year ever.. Over 4K units came into the USA...

In 2009.. I believe it was just under 1K units sold... In the 900 hundreds

My guess would be around the same or less ever year that after till now...

Totals are going to be on the lower side of MY guessing range of numbers....

Exactly. I told an old college buddy of mine that I got a new car, and when I said it was an IS-F he said, oh yeah, my girlfriend has one of those. Without even knowing his girlfriend or ever seeing her car I said, no she doesn't... it's a IS250 or IS350 I'm sure (thinking it was definitely the IS250). I was right.

The only people that have any idea about this car that I've talked to are the people who work at my local Lexus dealership or those that are regular car forum posters. I love it!

So 3K-5K IS-Fs GLOBALLY per year? It would make sense that no more than 2K come to the US per year then, and then only a few hundred in each color. Cool!

I hope Lexus continues the limited production trend of the IS-F.

Wow JoeZ that's crazy. Hard to fathom less than 1,000 units sold per year in the US from 09-now. I always knew that it seemed everyone had 2008s... now it makes a little more sense that there were 3-4x the number of 2008s sent here than other years.

Whether your figures are accurate or just guesstimates, I'm going to start telling people my 2009 was one of maybe 1000 sold in the US that year. No wonder I never see these cars around! I think I've seen less than 5 on the roads ever over the 5 years they've been out.

Yeup...

After 2008 - 2009 I stopped tracking... As I knew it would be less than, every year there after..

The Launch Year was easily the Best Year ever.. !!

Then the car market / stock market / house market etc.. etc.. Took a major hit in that very same time period..
So that didn't help Global numbers at all...

Well, I'll be da.... That's pretty cool. I work with North American built vehicles and they are usually lumped all together. Now I know...and knowing is half the battle.

The fact that it is rare, I was at Carson Toyota last Tuesday and surprisingly one of the financial managers didn't know what an IS-F is or was. It so funny when he asked me if my car was an "IS 350-F"?! I just plainly said it's an IS-F and he added, which I'll never forget, "your car looks like a rocket" and he tells me "everyone was looking at it". My point here is... I also drive and own Mercedes Benz(s) but with the IS-F, some people, i think , think of the IS-F as being one of a kind or perhaps a better words to describe it would be "almost non-existent." Heck...even with a CLS AMG with 500 HP on the hood you don't get that kind of compliments you get from an IS-F.

There's my 2 cents.

I have a 2011; the last 4 of the VIN are 8156. Doesn't seem to jive with the idea that it's sequential by year. Sequential since 2008?

If the Sequential theory holds true.... It would be since 2008...

Which could mean, we should be over 10,000 units in the USA by now.!! (many have already been totaled or destroyed as well)

Here is a 2012 IS-F VIN that landed in Long Beach, CA in September of 2011..

Mine is an '11 and ends in 8175. Do we know whether they started at 0001?
