Default Nitto NT05 review

http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt05

Hey guys... as most of youknow im a track ***** with my F and i have been blasting threw sets of tires and recntly tried out the NT05 from Nitto. All i have to say is wow and why are we all are not running this tire im not sure. Its cheap, its quite and it performs. I had these all over a track two weeks ago and they are like glue. All VSC was turned off obvioulsy running in sport mode. running my carbotech xp12/10 set up. the tres never locked slaming on the brake from 130, held cornering extremely well,it kicked out a couple times when i got carless but i recovered from the kicks. tire wear is typicall out of a set of 180 treadwear tires i assume i will see 8k out of a set but for the price compared to a Bridgstone RE-11, ADVAN Neova AD08 or toyo proxy888 this is the bang for the buck to drive to the track, run like a mad man and go home on the same tires. I did have to watch my tire psi because it was rising and falling quickly with heat cycles. I paid 960 for a full set shipped to my house for 245/35/19 & 275/30/19. I think for the style tire this may be the best street/ tracktire i have tried. the Toyos are hands down better as they are an R comp but for the 4-5k you get out of them at 1500 bucks aset i think i will be sicking with the Nittos. any questions feel free to ask. -DArby

Great info Darbs! I was curious about these tires.... I wonder how much they're different from the Michelin PSS's? I ended up getting NT01's for my track setup and so far LOVE them on the street... (will have to see how they are on the track, but I'm confident they are going to ROCK!)

GREAT INFO! on the Nittos...thanks!

For other people reading this thread...just as a FYI incase some don't know, keep in mind, the NT05 is a 200 treadwear tire, and you CAN'T compare that number to other tire manufactures. I have Bridgestone RE11s on my car...they're great tires IMO, but at $285-$330 each, they are pricey (not as pricey as Pilot Sports), however, they have a 180 tread wear (A temp, A traction) and I've gotten 40,000 miles out of the front, and about 28,000 out of my rears.

Granted I'm not taking my car to the track like Darbs242. I'm only stating this so that people don't get afraid of "OMG it's under a 200 treadwear". Of course tire wear purely matters how you drive, but we're not pushing our cars to the limit ALL the time.

I used to buy Nitto NT555s, they were priced well, worked well, and it was a 300 tread wear...I used to get maybe 20,000 out of those tires when they were on my Acura TL.

Just my two cents on tire wear.

We run NT05's on Project IS-F. You can read about our impressions here.

Just gonna go out on a whim, but probably really bad. High performance tires like the NT05, which seem like they're designed for auto-x type driving probably isn't too good in the rain.

I run these tires on the Supra and have no complaints other then my week offset and width (not the tires fault) I can still brake them loose with ease but then again that's not hard in a 850whp Supra

In all seriousness they where a MAJOR improving from the BF Goodrich KDWs that where originally on the car and a great tire that have served me well
No feedback on the wet driving since this car has never seen rain but the thread block looks like it would channel water. I'm sure Darbs will have an answer on that one since it's been raining often up here in New England lately.

Either way next round for that car will be the same as the F....PSS 305/30-19 on x11 wheels for the street.

I ran NT05's on my 500rwhp supercharged cobra. They performed very well on the track and street. They were pretty scary in the rain though especially when they got a bit older! Or should I say they were a lot of fun in the rain!

The only complaint I had with them was they were real dirty. Could not keep the rear of the car clean. They were by far the dirtiest tire I ran on the cobra. I just had to wash the car more!

We tested them in the wet and they did pretty well except in standing water where they were just ok.

+1 ^ I had them on my track Z06 and they were awesome. In the rain, not so much.

The first hour the track was wet and i was much more more careful in the wet. These tires give you a lot of confidence on the dry but you will be slowing down a bit in the wet
