Default Bumper Plugs for license plate holes

I just bought my IS-F in NY 2 weeks ago. It already had a front license plate mount on it.
The car is being registered in north Carolina and only needs a rear plate.

I didn't really want a custom front plate and the car looks better without it.

I stumbled across this idea on a Mustang forum. I discovered that I had a coule of choices.
1- Bumperplugs.com offers plugs prepainted, yes they have Lexus colors. But at $28, I wanted to see what else was available.

2- On a Mustang forum I found a post where they used a plug from Home Depot. the Mustang in question was white so the guy didn't paint it. I used touch up paint. The hard part was taken a 3/8" drill to my bumper to enlarge the hole to accomodate the plug.
Cost $1.04, I already had the touchup paint/

Here's the bag with part number if anyone is interested

I used the stud on the back of the old license plate mount to hold the plug while I painted it.

Here's a shot with one in and the other hole enlarged

Both plugs in place

It's not perfect, but looks pretty good and I can still go the bumperplus.com route if it doesn't hold up

Nice little trick that I'm sure some people will appreciate. Did you ever get that screwdriver out of the defrost vent?

Looks good. I went with a custom Japanese plate that came in the mail today. When I get bored with the plate maybe I will do bumper plugs.

I was going to ask about this yesterday. But went to AutoZone and looked in the area for trim and bought some black screws that fitted. It looks alright but I might give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

Nope, could not get it out.
I popped the defroster vent insert (cover) and realized that there was no way in hell i would be able to get a magnet down there and on the chance that I might it probably would not come back out.

I then had the brainstorm (brainfart) of trying to get to it through the opening for the cabin filter. Looking at the location it seemed possible that if the vent was 1st in line the area might be accessable through the glove box opening. I was able to worm my arm into the opening but couldn't feel much, just some wires. So, I gave up. I'm now hoping it is stuck out of the way, if not I guess I'll have to have the shop go in.
