Default what is the best method of shifting in manual mode

looking for some feedback....
is it best to hold the gear as long as possible and hear the beep or shift sooner?
also is the F faster in sport auto or sport manual..??

Sport mode, manual, hear beep and shift.

Edmunds did a test a few years ago to see what was the fastest way to launch an ISF and they found that the manual mode actually makes the car slower even though it "feels faster".

The 3,780-pound IS-F gets to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and does the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds at 109 mph, trailing the RS4 to 60 mph by about a half-second and to the quarter-mile by almost as much. This is with the stability and traction control systems off (yes, Lexus actually allows such a thing, a policy initiated for its performance cars for 2007) and the transmission in Drive. Later we made our runs and manually shifted the IS-F's transmission, which feels fast but predictably isn't, especially since the launch is better in Drive.

My best run so far is 4.6, traction off, sport, manual, shifting early.... I have to run it to the tone and see what I get. I know it can go faster.

I disagree with Edmunds too. According to many of our members, M mode is faster and proven at the drag strip. You get .01 of a second upshifts in M mode; you don't get that in auto.

Yep, just like everyone else is saying, wind it out until you hear the beep and then shift.

I believe you get better times shifting right when you hit the rev limiter. Obviously you need to be in Manual / VDM off / Sport mode to get the full experience, so Edmunds is wrong.

BTW, get rid of that intake and your numbers will improve.

Not to hijack but does anyone know if you can turn up the tone on the beep?

Really? 13.2 when I had my IS350 I was pulling 13.4 and 13.5 all day long, Edmunds is possibly one of the worst sources for accurate info pertaining to any sport oriented vehicle not just F but for any car. Edmunds constantly produce the slowest 0-60 times, 1/4 mile, worst skip pad numbers, lateral g, braking distance you name of any automotive rag, that includes Internet. Real world number can be found at some of different forums out there, or Internet sites like Dragtimes.com, you can compare time from some of automotive mag such as MT, CD, Automotive etc to get average time or you can use the best way, and find out for yourself. Just head out to you local track especially on test and tune day and do couple of passes in controlled environment and see for yourself what the car can do and have blast while doing it.

I am gonna go out for some shift practice right now.
It might be the srt intake giving me some heat soak..I like the sound and look of it though soo i am going to keep that intake.. I am saving up for headers now to compensate for the slight loss of power.

This is true. I've tried this at the track. Shift at the rev limit.

I like to manual shift even for daily driving , start up and just drive a few minutes in auto 1st to get the engine warm up then switch to manual.
