Metallic click sound coming from left rear axle area

Zapa just thought I'd give you my latest on the metallic click I had in the left rear axle. So after you started this thread I started to notice the noise coming back though much less than I had back in the fall. I took it back to the dealer earlier this week and this time around instead of using axle grease they used disc brake grease on the axle splines and carrier. All seems quiet again so hopefully the thicker brake grease will have solved the issue for good.

I think them lubing the splines is just masking the true problem.

Hey would you mind testing something for me real quick all you have to do is power load the car. Thats when my noise gets exaggerated and how they believe the figured out the problem. The lexus dealership in VA Beach said that it is the hub and bearing where the spline slides into. They think that there is too much room in-between the two so when you power load the car it smacks into the metal which makes sense to me. If this happens for you i would get them to check that out for ya.

Well I will let you know if that resolves my problem. Hopefully it does. If your clicking continues and this solves mine you might want to mention this to your dealership.

if its a issue that has been addressed while in warranty, it can be replaced and reapired under wRranty. If not, its going to be pretty tough to get it done, but maybe showing them proof of alot of owners aith this problem may help you out

okay guys i can confidently say that my clicking noise is gone. The noise I was having came from a bent hub and bearing that was replaced for free. Thank you everyone for the help.

I had this same exact problem, and its going on its second time, and its probable going to get new axles next time due to this. Its the torque the car makes compared to the thickness of the rear tires. Im almost positive if you take it to the dealer, they will heck it for hra just to come to the conclusion the axlea have shifted. There have been a few board memebers contact me because i have been doing a build on my f and somewhere in there i said something about this problem. If still under factory warranty, you shouldnt get charged. Hope this helps you nd good luck
Edit: you are running 285 in the rear. Im almost sure its your axles

For clarification you are saying
1. the weight of the car plus
2. the amount of torque the engine makes plus
3. hard driving plus
4. wider rear tires
--will make the axles shift?
Maybe in your case (with another factor?), but I have trouble believing this can be true. I am not saying your situation did not happen, but there has to be another factor or two or three to make the axles shift. Going from 255 to 285 will stress the driveline so much the axles will shift?

^^^Anyone else with a possible reason?

^^^^^^ Sounds like its a manufactures defect. Just my 2 cents.... I was running my car bone stock when I first heard the noise, i ignored it for a bit. After the header install the noise got a little bit louder and that is when I took my car in for repair.
