Default Seeking Radar Detector Recommendation for the F

It did not take long to get a speeding ticket with the new F. Luckily, the kind officer gave me a 5 over (instead of a 40 over).

In addition to showing restraint and keep the beast out of the S mode in town driving, I would like to purchase a radar detector to keep this from happening again.

Can any of you recommend radar detectors that are worth the expenditure and bother of installation?

Thanks Guys. I checked out Best Buys--they have competitive pricing and the reviews were excellent as well.

I will hunt one down!

the V1 is overrated and constantly places second in radar detector shootouts. I have gone through a few, and by far the best is the escort redline. It has 2 front facing antennas rather then the useless GPS feature and picks up Ka band from further away then any radar detector I have used.

I love my Valentine 1. I have one in each of my cars. I have owned it for over 8 years, it has saved me more times than I can remember.

FYI, you still have to be attentive, because none of the radar detectors can warn you about laser before it too late. Around me, they use laser like crazy, just one pull of the trigger and youre done. My next purchase will be a laser jammer to help prevent this.

I have the K40 on my ISF with jammer (was already installed by the prior owner). Its range seems similar if not better than my escort solo S2.

I have watched and read a few reviews about how the jammer function of the unit is useless.... So far no tickets! Like others have said above, it still takes an alert watchful eye!

V1. Paid for itself many, many, many times over.

Yeah, laser blows chunks unless you have a reliable laser jammer.

As always, radar and laser devices are not cop detectors, and the officer does not need to radar or laser you if you're clearly going faster than surrounding traffic. In California, officers are routinely tested for their ability to visually estimate speed, and it holds up in court. It's great to have technology, but it's more important to learn how to be inconspicuous when you drive. If you don't stand out, you won't get tickets.

If cost is no object and you want THE BEST, then Belstronics STIR Plus (custom installed RD) is the best one out there because it has a feature called Band Segmentation that allows you to choose to have the RD only scan the Ka frequency's used in your area of the world... In the US there are only 3 frequency's of Ka Radar guns, 33.8, 34.7, and 35.5. So you only turn on segments 2, 5, and 8 on the stir+, and because it's not wasting time scanning unused frequency's it is more "sensitive" and quicker to alert to these frequency's. This has nothing to do with K-band radar btw, only Ka. What's nice about the stir+ (and the 9500ix) is that the GPS feature allows you to "lock out" false K-band signals (from radar type door openers used in most large retail stores...etc) so that you're not always getting falses..... This is definitely a can't live without feature in the big cities, but less of an issue if you are in a rural area....
As someone stated above, Laser jammers are necessary to save you from laser guns, and if you want the system that is unquestionably "the best" out there verified by "GUYS OF LIDAR" (a group of independet speed countermeasure enthusiasts) then Laser Interceptor is the brand you want/need. There is a huge difference in the effectiveness of the different brands out there.... If you good them and do a little research on the Radardetector.net forum, you will see I'm not wrong on either of these recommendations... If the OP (or anybody else) wants to know more about my setup, or has any questions about this stuff (I'm no expert, but spent COUNTLESS HOURS, researching this stuff before buying my setup) I'd be happy to help!!! (this is something that I probably know a little more about than the average person on here) and would like to be helpfull as I have gotten much appreciated help on this forum about more "mechanicaly related" topics on my F!
My setup has saved me so many times from radar (and I've also had 3 laser saves) it has deffinitely paid for itself in the first year of my F ownership and I'm so far (knock on wood) ticket free!!! (and I drive F'N FAST ALL THE TIME!!)
here's a link to my intall....

^Well put. It's not about solely relying on technology to avoid getting pulled over. Blending in with the crowd, or traffic for that matter, is safer than otherwise. I was getting egged on by an M5 today on the highway, and while this driver was busy weaving in and out of lanes, I'm just cruising at my usual 70. And out of nowhere- bam! Red and blue lights in my rear view mirror, but it wasn't for me. It was for the guy who thinks he can get away with narrowly cutting off other drivers and trying to show me up. No way would a radar detector would've spotted this cop, as he had just gotten on the onramp. I have been looking into a radar detector myself, but I wonder how it would have an effect on my driving; i.e. driving faster or simply relaxing too much behind the wheel and solely relying on the detector to spot cops.
