Default How many miles left when range = 0?

Just read this (http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evol...xus_isf.html):

"The IS-F’s range indicator has got my goat because it cries wolf. It’s unable to accurately tell me how much fuel remains. I know the car has a 64-litre tank, so why, even when I play chicken with the ‘0 miles’ warning, do I never get more than 58 litres in?

To find out how far of the mark it was, I popped a can of fuel in the boot and drove until the engine coughed. Guess how far I went after the trip computer insisted the fuel cupboard was bare. 54 miles. Still love it, though."

Just curious if other owners have experienced the same thing? It´s a waste of time to refill with 20 or so miles to go if it´s actually around 70...

My 3GS 430 is the same way. So is my 06 GTO. The GTO though is a tad more better than my 430.

Maybe it doesnt take into account the small amount of fuel sloshing around or is unable to calculate at that amount of fuel. I purposefully set my clocks 2 minutes ahead so that im never late =p

I've gone 30 miles after it hit zero. Pure laziness.

I´m sure it is, and I´m sure it is intentional. But just as I like to set the exact time on my watches I would have prefered it to be exact. So it would be nice to know the correct figure without having to "strand it" myself

It is intentional. Most, if not all cars have it. Helps if you're far from civilization too.

And to think all those times i rolled into the gas station with the dial on zero thinking to myself "whew that was a close one". Im one of those people who has a hard time shelling out 80 bucks for a tank of gas so im always driving on a quarter tank or less. Ive "played chicken" one too many times. Reading this post isnt going to help my cause now that ive learned theres a good 30-35 miles left after your at zero...

Agree, fuel cools the pump, also cavitation issue. On a high flow pump to little gas and it will cavitate, go wide open throttle on no gas, injectors lack fuel, engine goes lean, burn a piston. I try to fill up around a 1/4 with all my cars.

no its not a problem. its a reserve for the people to stubborn to fill up when it hits 0. you have 2 gallons roughly after it hits 0

Running lean isn't good either.
