Default LED in Gauge Cluster

Hey guys, the LED on the RPM indicator needle is blown out. I'm posting pictures below...has this happened to any of you guys?

Looks like you need an oil change lol. Just turn the dimmer down as far as you can and go stealth mode. That's how I roll.

I believe another member in Florida had the same situation and got the whole cluster replaced.

I used to do that but now I'm in the middle of the brightness
Too high and my eyes would burn after a few minutes of driving, too low and I couldn't discern the needles

Try PMing CL member "2slow." He can change those gauge needle LEDs out, even customize it to a different color for you.

I would just bring the car to the dealer since you are still under warranty and have them replace the whole cluster.

Definitely take it to the dealer if it is still under warranty! I just did a Infinity cluster that was hit by lightening, and that cluster was $3500.00 I have NO idea what ours cost to replace.

I'm the FL member that had that problem over a year ago:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ev-needle.html

Per my conversation with the SA, these needles are not LEDs, they stated dead pixels. They don't replace the needle, they replace the whole instrument cluster, and it's covered under warranty.

Your SA doesn't know what she's talking about. Both needles are illuminated by two miniature LEDs, it's painfully clear in the EWD.

Yeah I am under warranty so I do expect them to do it free of cost but can I really trust them to replace the whole cluster? I just hope the change doesn't cause other issues.

Thanks for all the reply's guys and any further input is welcome.

Yeah I know I'm going in for service in a couple days. Why do you turn the illumination down? You just don't like it, or is it something else?

Because the brighter it is at night the more it degrades your night vision. I turn them down until they're just bright enough to see. Anything more just kills your ability to see what is really important - the road in front of you!

4 LEDs to be exact. The needle is cut up in 4 sections that each LED is diffused to.

You'll need to change the entire needle. I tried to replace the LEDs that went out, but they still were out. I'm looking to see if it's the board or the resistors that's out.

wow... so just 2 cases of this happening... weird... you should ask them for a 2011 gauge cluster, if you like that... i like the digital speedometer and large tach in the center...

anyhow, let us know how it goes...

I just read this thread just yesterday, and thought "Wow, that would suck if that happened to mine since my warranty just expired." As my luck tends to go, if it's a common or known issue then it happens to me.

Nav screen stopped working - check
Blown ML sub - check
Squeaky brakes - check
Rearview mirror vibration - check
LED's dead in guage cluster - CHECK! DAMMIT!!

That's right, I went out to my car after reading that post at work, and when I started it up I noticed that my guage needle looks just like the one in the pic you posted above. So you can count me as case #3.

And then it got worse - I noticed that it's not only the tachometer needle, but the speedometer needle too! The inner most LED is dead on the tach, and the middle one is dead on the speedo. I wish I would have never seen this thread because I had never noticed it before and I probably wouldn't have ever noticed it, but now it's driving me NUTS!

And I'm literally just 300 miles out of warranty. I thought about asking the dealership to do a goodwill repair, but I already had a hard enough time with that when trying to get them to fix my blown subwoofer when I brought it in with 50,002 miles. I did get the extended platinum warranty though. What are the changes that they'd replace the gauge cluster under that warranty?

Here are pics of my needles:
