Default New Best Time at Drag Strip

Hey guys! Well.. finally have a minute to sit in front of the laptop. Last night I was able to head out to Firebird Raceway to try out the new Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radials! It was a gorgeous night... just below 50'... and less than 50 cars seemed to show!

First 3 passes... hot lapping... car went 12.74, 12.72 and then 12.71 @ 113+...

I was launching the car at 1,100 RPM's... and the Mickey Thompsons were just ALL TRACTION... (I was running 25PSI and other then heating them up in the water box... they never so much as let out a chirp!) VERY Impressive!

Infinus was heading out later... and told me to try 1,400 or so RPM's... so I went back after letting the car cool about an hour... and Sure enough... my 60' improved from 1.982 to a 1.968!

I let the car cool another 40 minutes... and figured... if that was 1,400... let's see how the Mickey Thompson's would take 1,500 RPM launches... Car went 1.971 60' and 12.55 @ 112+... I hot lapped it right back to the staging lanes... less than 3 minutes between runs... tried to get as much out of the converter as possible without 'spinning' the back tires sitting there... and went a 1.944 60' and a best E.T. of 12.508! Car was trapping 90.25MPH at the 1/8 mile!

The Mickey Thompson's and the IS-F were flawless all night...

For the grand finale... Infinus showed up in his IS-F, with Headers and a few other nice mods... straight from work... and he went 12.6X 12.6X and then for the final round.. I lined up with him... and he wasn't about to let a stock (borla / Dropin filter) beat him... and he went 12.593 @ 114 to my 12.598 @ 112...

I was real proud of the F... running consistent 12.5's all night long... and just barely missed that 12.4! Typically AZ is about .2 and 2MPH slower than the tracks I've run at on the west coast at sea level... so not bad at all!

Anyone considering an extra set of tires... the M/T ET Drag Radials (245/40/18) are a perfect fit!

Peace,
Dave

Yeah, I noticed no matter how cold or crappy the track prep, the MTs ALWAYS get it done for me. Good runs!

Sounds like a great time at the track. Have you weighed the DR tire+wheel setup yet?

Good job and great post! Makes me anxious to go drag racing again! I'll second you on the M/T drag radials, I only got to try mine out once before the strip closed for the season and was very impressed.

Didn't weigh to verify, but enkei pf01 should weigh 18 pounds, and m/t site shows 25 pounds. So 43 pounds?

That's about right - mine with the exact same tires and 18" Volks are 43 pounds - about 10 pounds lighter than stock PS2 and rims per wheel.

In my defense:

They are 19's and I was on street tires but still got a 1.9x 60' I also had just driven 45 mins to get to the track and ran 3 back to back runs with no cool down, I had a full tank of az pee water 91 gas, my spare and all tools still inside, plus my amp/subwoofer were still in the trunk too. Given all that I'm damn proud and that was my highest trap speed I've gotten so far. Next time if I'm better prepared I'll do better But enough of my excuses

Great job Dave! Nice meeting you!

What the heck are you doing going to a drag strip with a full tank of gas and junk in your trunk!?

Well Dave invited me the night before and I had just filled up that morning. I didn't even think I was going to be able to go because I work till 11pm and my work is on the other side of town and I had to be up at 6 am the next day for a 16 hour shift. But then I was able to get my coworker to come in early so I decided to go but my house is in the opposite direction so I just went straight to the track. By the way why did you erase the link to the dragstrip journal? I always used that lol

I don't think there's any defense needed. At least you know that you car is a mid 12 second car in "true" street trim. You also know how your car stacks up against "the rest" on the street.

Congrats to you both on good times at the track.
